Job Description

The person in this role will be responsible for implementing the Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP) and Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (SRAE) in partnering schools throughout Houston, Texas.

The purpose of the AFC-PREP program is to provide an evidence based health education curriculum, Promoting Health Among Teens (PHAT), that educates minority youth between the ages of 10 and 19, and pregnant and parenting youth, under age 21, on abstinence and contraception for the prevention of pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV/AIDS. The Prevention Coordinator reports directly to the Program Manager.

The purpose of AFC-SRAE, Abstinence Only, evidence-based Health Education program to minority youth between the ages of 14 and 19 at our partnering school campuses and community-based sites.
Principle Responsibilities:
– Organize the dissemination of PHAT (Promoting Health Among Teens) evidence-based curriculum
– Coordinate youth development activities with Outreach Coordinator
– Serve as the school liaison for academic and campus-based programming
– Communicate with school counselors/teachers/officials on student progress and participation
– Coordinate monthly parent trainings to include: curriculum, special presentations, and communication/correspondence to parents regarding trainings, upcoming events, etc.
– Administer surveys, gather and compile student academic data
– Coordinate outreach activities involving stakeholders, businesses, and volunteers
– Coordinate capacity-building activities and schedule of activities
– Communicate special projects to community stakeholders
– Assess pre and post evaluations with program manager
– Administer surveys and questionnaires for participant feedback
– Organize the dissemination of the PHAT-AO (Promoting Health Among Teens – Abstinence Only) evidence-based curriculum
– Coordinate speakers, special presentations, and personal testimonies § Develop surveys and questionnaires for participant feedback
– Oversee program activities, curriculum, and events
– Coordinate youth development activities with Outreach Coordinator
– Serve as the school liaison for academic and campus-based rap sessions
– Communicate with school counselors/teachers/officials on student progress and participation
– Make referrals to assist youth in health or emotional crises, management issues as required
– Prepare and distribute age-appropriate, medically accurate materials regarding abstinence
– Gather and compile student academic data
– Coordinate outreach and recruitment in target service areas as well as coordinate outreach activities involving schools, community partners, stakeholders, business, and volunteers
– Coordinate activities, fieldtrips, and presentations
– Coordinate capacity-building activities and schedule of activities
– Conduct campus and community-based support services where needed
– Assess pre and post evaluations of adolescents’ and parent performance and perceptions.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree Preferred A minimum of two (2) years experience working in a position serving at risk youth. The preferred candidate will have some teaching experience and some knowledgeable of community resources and experience in building referral networks. Also, the candidate should have strong skills using Excel and Microsoft Word

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Experience working in a government public health agency or educational agencies in the areas of HIV/AIDS education and Teen Pregnancy Prevention is preferred.
Ability to facilitate curriculum to at risk students and their parents
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
Ability to employ effective classroom management skills
Ability to employ strategic decision-making skills and willingly offer intervention techniques to assist at risk youth
Ability to manage various programs, projects and staff, in the review and analysis of laws, regulations and proposals governing reproductive health education programs at school sites
Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships, learn and interpret specific rules, laws, and policies and apply them with good judgment in a variety of situations, meet deadlines, travel to various locations.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $35,000.00 - $40,000.00 per year
