Job Summary

This position functions in an administrative capacity helping to ensure patients receive medications and all matters regarding medication are handled in a timely manner. This individual is responsible for processing prescriptions to the appropriate provider s signature que, coordinating patient care surrounding their prescription needs, and monitoring status of all prescriptions ordered by the providers. The Prescription Coordinator will coordinate all functions of the prescription refill phone line and provide support and coverage to his/her colleagues, as needed. Duties include but are not limited to: coordinates and monitors the prescription refill line and other prescription requests; provides phone support for general patient inquiries on the refill line; effectively communicates with the patients, colleagues, and superiors across all departments; provides clerical support and administrative assistance as directed; interacts with patients and providers.

Essential Job Functions

  • Retrieves incoming requests from call lines, portal, or fax and processes refill requests accordingly.
  • Perform refill eligibility check for incoming request and review with provider for discrepancy.
  • Initiate prior authorization for medications rejected by insurance carriers.
  • Act as primary contact with retail pharmacies for refills and prior authorizations.
  • Contact patient/family on status of medication refill requests and/or prior authorization and appeal status.
  • Primary liaison with IT department for continuous portal development and functional testing.
  • Conduct daily monitoring of the VSB status for responsible sites.
  • Primary contact for drug representatives.
  • Member of CSH taskforce, as needed.
  • Develop quality metrics and maintain quality reporting.
  • Facilitates contact with pharmacy locator service.
  • Handles customer service issues.
  • Review electronic prescription transaction rejection report and problem solve with appropriate area.
  • Coordinate lunch and learn events for providers.
  • Understanding of basic medical terminology and familiarity with prescription medications.
  • Any other related duties as assigned by Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Chief within Children s Specialized Hospital.

Formal Education and Job-Related Experience

  • High School/GED diploma within 6 months of being hired.

  • Individual must meet all State requirements for NJ DCA Pharmacy Technician License with an active license in good-standing.

  • Must have experience working in a pharmacy or refill line setting.
  • Flexible, hardworking individual with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Must be self-motivated and work well in a team environment.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Sound problem-solving and communication skills are required.
  • Ability to professionally interact with people (i.e., parents, staff, patients, therapy and physician services) is vital.
  • Familiarity with computer software packages (Microsoft Office).
  • Ability to organize and follow specific instructions.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and function with the utmost integrity at all times.
  • Bilingual preferred, but not required.
  • Concentration and ability to handle multiple tasks in a distracting, fast-paced work environment. Must be detail oriented and have strong customer service skills
