It is with the spirit of philoxenia (a welcoming of strangers and an eagerness to show hospitality); meraki (putting the best of one’s self into cooking and work); and kefi (living life joyfully) that Avli announces the opening of its fourth venue—a new Mediterranean-focused restaurant located in Chicago’s Lakeshore East neighborhood.

We are looking for a professional Prep Cook to prepare food to the exact chef’s specifications and to set up stations for menu. Prep Cook duties will consist of assisting the executive and sous chef with their daily tasks. The successful candidate will play a key role in contributing to a renaissance in Chicago Greek cuisine.

Prep Cook responsibilities include:

  • - Setting up and stocking stations with all necessary supplies
  • - Preparing food for service (e.g. chopping vegetables, butchering meat, or preparing sauces)
  • - Cooking menu items in cooperation with the rest of the kitchen staff.
  • - Rotation training system.
  • - Set up and stocking stations with all necessary supplies

  • - Answer, report and follow executive or sous chef’s instructions
  • - Clean up station and take care of leftover food
  • -Stock inventory appropriately
  • - Ensure that food comes out simultaneously, in high quality and in a timely fashion
  • - Comply with nutrition and sanitation regulations and safety standards
  • - Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and customers

Requirements

  • Proven cooking experience, including experience as a Line cook or Restaurant Cook or Prep Cook
  • Excellent understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment and procedures
  • Accuracy and speed in executing assigned tasks
  • Familiar with industry’s best practices
  • Food Handlers Certification

Job Duties:

  • Prepare all food items as directed in a sanitary and timely manner
  • Follow recipes and presentation specifications
  • Operate standard kitchen equipment safety and efficiently
  • Clean and maintain station in practicing good safety and sanitation
  • Assist with the cleaning and organization of kitchen and equipment
  • Restock items as needed throughout the shift
  • Adhere to all sanitation and food production codes

  • 10PM

Typical start time:

  • 10AM
