Semester/Year: 2021 / 2022 Academic Year

Positions Available: 12-18

Job Location: Geneva

Supervisor: David Mapstone

Payrate: $350

Start Date: August 11, 2021

End Date: August 19, 2021

Hours Per Week: Hours will vary up to 28 hours per week


POSITION SUMMARY

The Pre-Orientation Adventure Program (POAP) is an optional, five-day outdoor experience offered to incoming first-year students. The program provides the chance to experience hiking, kayaking, or participating in a community service program in the greater Geneva area. Students will also get a chance to meet classmates, learn new skills, ease into the collegiate lifestyle, and have a bit of fun before formal Orientation and classes start.


Job Requirements:

  • Be in good academic standing.
  • NOT be an RA, Orientation Mentor/Leader, or Fall Athlete that needs to participate in pre-season for the Fall of the 2021 Academic Year
  • Have some previous form of outdoor experience.
  • Be currently certified, or willing to become certified, in some form of First Aid, CPR, and Wilderness First Responder. HWS will cover some or all of the cost for training.
  • Be available for a possible recon trip sometime before August 11, 2021.
  • Be able to return to campus August 11, 2021 and work through to the afternoon of August 19, 2021
  • Be physically able to carry 35+ pounds over rough terrain, and cope with the unknowns of the weather.
  • Be able to lead and manage 8-10 incoming HWS students who may be very close in age, but not maturity and who may not have had any prior outdoor experience under the conditions stated above.
