Job Summary
*
Under the direction of the Education Specialist, the Teacher Assistant Agency Floater possesses a diverse set of skills that support the daily operation of our Pre-K/First 8 Memphis program by supporting teachers and supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas; Planning and implementing learning experiences that advance the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of Pre-K students through a variety of teaching strategies; Relieve staff during break periods and serve as a classroom substitute as needed.*
Qualifications
- * High School diploma or equivalent required.*
- * Two years of successful work Early Childhood Education experience in a related field preferred.*
- Child Development Associate (CDA) Preschool preferred.
- * Associate’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred.*
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities*
*
1. Performs according to the standards set forth by the Porter-Leath, Department of Human Services, Tennessee Department of Education, CACFP, USDA, and all other governing agencies.*
2. Provides classroom coverage for Teachers and Assistant Teachers when they are absent or out of the classroom; Assume responsibilities as the primary caregiver for one group of children for Teachers / Assistant Teachers, including children with special needs when assigned.
3. Keeps supervisor informed of programmatic issues in a timely and concise manner.
4. Works cooperatively with other staff to create a positive, enriching, and safe environment for children, families, and staff.
5. Assists program staff in delivering appropriate health, nutrition, disability, education, and family support services to children and families in accordance with program policies, procedures, and service plans.
6. Assists in implementing daily education procedures in the classroom while adhering to best practices; assists in ensuring that children are involved in activities suited to their immediate emotional, social, intellectual, and physical needs; provides ample activity options to children.
7. Ensures communication with nutrition staff, health/disability/nutrition staff, and education staff in order to fulfill special diet needs.
8. Assists in maintaining appropriate records of attendance, meal counts, etc. necessary to produce reports.
9. Maintaining an atmosphere that protects the privacy of confidential student and personnel records and information is required.
10. Conduct regular home visits and parent conferences with families.
11. Assists with and conducts ongoing child assessments.
12. Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
13. Demonstrated flexibility in the performance of various job functions is required.
14. Arrives promptly, including being present in the assigned workplace at set times and on a daily basis in order to provide consistency and continuity of educational services.
16. Contributes to team effort by performing other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands*
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit and talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
