Position Highlights
The Center for Applied NanoBioscience and Medicine (ANBM) seeks a post-doctoral fellow to perform materials research and development for novel sample preparation and separations for mass spectrometry-based omics. The candidate will design, synthetize and characterize various polymer fiber-based substrates and sol-gel coatings. The candidate will develop, optimize, and perform chemical composition and surface properties suitable for extracting molecular analytes from liquid biopsies (i.e. blood, saliva and urine). The candidate must have a deep knowledge in materials science, polymer chemistry and analytical chemistry as well as some experience in biomarker discovery using MS and LC/MS-analytical tools.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Performing chemical synthesis of sol-gel coatings of fiber-based substrate such as fabric, paper-based cellulose and other polymer substrate for optimizing separations of a broad range of analytes from liquid biopsies.
- Using fluid dynamic and other simulation software packages, model fluidic parameters of the fiber substrate and coatings.
- Assist radiobiologists and biochemists with the development/optimization/validation of sample preparation devices for mass spectrometry instrumental platforms to ensure compatibility with omic assays, especially for metabolomics.
- Participate in teamwork with internal groups but also interfacing with consortium members (e.g. NIAID) and governmental or corporate sponsors.
- Prepare manuscripts, oral presentations, and posters for participation at scientific conferences.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- PhD in Materials Sciences and Engineering, Chemistry, or related field.
- One to two years of research experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- In-depth understanding of sol-gel coating chemistry, analytical chemistry preparation, mass spectrometry, excellent knowledge of biochemistry and cellular biology and be aware of the current state-of-the-art in analytical chromatography and sample preparation techniques.
- Prefer broad experience with instrumental analytics and sample preparation methods in the field of materials science and analytical chemistry/biochemistry.
- Experience with omics and mass spectrometry instrumentation a plus.
