Responsibilities
- Receive and dispatch routine and emergency calls and personal requests for assistance, assign officers to answer calls for service and record officer's activities, solicit information to determine appropriate resources needed to respond to requests for service.
- Monitor, operate, and assist in maintaining all electronic equipment, monitor and operate Security Management Card Access System, computerized incident reporting system, computerized digital videoarchiving records system, computerized electronic surveillance /monitoring system, computerized infant protection systems, DCI system, DMV, NCIC, local, state, and federal databases, computerized dictaphone audio recording system, emergency call box systems, alarm systems, two way radio systems, and bus transportation radio system, perform all required and scheduled back-ups of each electronic system.
- Communicate with other law enforcement agencies.
- Routinely make quick, informed decisions which effect the safety of both officers and the public.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- High School or equivalent
- Before the end of 10 months, the Telecommunicator is expected to receive his/her Telecommunications Certification from the N.C. Justice Academy.
- Before the end of the first 10 months, he/she is expected to be certified to operate the DCI terminal.
- Before the Telecommunicator is released from training, he/she will have to be certified to operate the department's Computerized Incident Reporting System.
- 1 year or less experience with computer driven systems/equipment. Preference to have law enforcement / security equipment related experience.
