Point of Care Coordinator
- (22003815) Position Summary:Responsible for assessing, developing, planning, coordinating, and documenting all processes, education, and ongoing functionality for Point of Care testing (POCT). Acts as a liaison between laboratory and non-laboratory units and physicians regarding training, certification and ongoing performance of POCT operators. Responsible for verifying QC results and documentation to meet all regulatory requirements. Takes an active role in the selection process for new POCT instruments; coordinates implementation of instrumentation. Must have a thorough knowledge of the instrument, operating procedures, and instrument specific software. Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for POCT functions in laboratory and non-laboratory areas. Collaborates with the laboratory team, nursing and physician staff to facilitate positive patient outcomes.
2. Monitors reports of the various tests on a daily basis or as indicated by test type. Verifies that manually-reported results are accurate as reviewed in the individual software and that questionable testing (i.e. testing with no orders, incorrect Pt. ID numbers, or questionable results) are appropriate.
3. Maintains specific software for each POC test type, including monitoring to ensure full connectivity and troubleshooting connectivity problems. Validates software revisions as needed.
4. Documents and/or performs quality control, troubleshooting, calibration and maintenance checks as outlined for each test type. Conducts verification tests on new products, performing comparison studies between new instruments, statistical analysis and special projects.
5. Updates certifications for operators as needed.
6. Manages reagent ordering to ensure optimum pricing and availability of reagents. Distributes proficiency testing materials for each area by test, and documents testing results.
7. Conserves laboratory resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
8. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
9. Maintains safe and clean working environment and protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control, hazardous waste and other policies and protocols.
10. Performs other related duties as required and directed.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in medical technology.
- Completion of clinical internship.
- ASCP MT certified or equivalent.
- College of American Pathologists (CAP) requires a copy of academic degree or transcript.
- Three years of laboratory experience required.
