Your Impact:


Candidate will provide operational support to NASA Langley Research Center's Compressor Station and research facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Support of pre-operate and post-system operations for the Operations Facility
  • Perform minor and/or major maintenance on fluid and mechanical systems and ancillary equipment in a safe and efficient manner
  • Perform panel/automation operations associated with ejector, mixer, cooling system, silane, combustible air and other fluids such as fuel, LOX, R134, LN2, hydraulic, high pressure air production and ancillary equipment with level 2 certified or above technician oversight
  • Will make regular rounds and take readings on all plant consumable, equipment and sub-systems
  • Trouble-shoot system and component failures/anomalies with level 2 certified or above lead or senior plant technician
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools, facility software and electronic monitoring equipment
  • Maintain logs to record significant and/or historical events
  • Complete Safe Plan of Action forms, and Safety Observation Reports
  • Obtain and maintain minimal certification level on facility’s systems and panels and various lifting equipment, i.e., forklift, crane, and aerial lifts
  • Assist facility technician with the setup, installation, checkout, and teardown of the various sub-systems required for research operations
  • Must develop familiarization of the facility and work safely performing operations
  • Will perform other duties as directed by lead or supervisor
Here’s What You’ll Need:


U.S. Citizenship is required. Experience with any power generating equipment is a plus. Four (4) years of experience in the operation, maintenance and repair of like or typical equipment as utilized in high pressure air and gas compressor or other gas compressing/dispensing plants operations. Must have a general knowledge of mechanical systems. Experienced in reading and identifying typical symbols on mechanical schematics/drawings. Experienced in the purpose, understanding and following of written standard operating procedures and guidelines. Knowledge of OSHA Red Tag and equipment Lockout/Tagout standards, and plant/equipment maintenance and reliability are a plus.

Failure to perform daily responsibilities and operate facility system may affect or delay facility activities and overall schedule.

Essential Functions:

Work Environment:
Office environment. (10-25%)
Test Environment- May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, hazardous propellants, explosives, chemicals, and industrial facilities (90%) Travel between various facilities and during test operations may be required and may bring exposure to loud noise and potentially hazardous equipment operation (10%) Industrial plant environment (100 %)

Physical Requirements:

Visual and physical (hands on) contact of test related systems, hardware, articles. Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist and sit for extended periods as well as climb, crawl, and lift up to 35 lbs. (30%) Ability to distinguish basic colors (10%) Corrected vision (100%) Hearing (100%) Lifting, carrying, exerting pressure up to 45 lbs. (10%)

Potential exposure to high noise levels, hazardous chemicals, propellants and the like. Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for all conditions.

Equipment and Machines:
Control room test operation display/keyboards/mechanical/electrical control Plant environment includes reciprocating compressor, dryers, pumps, cooling towers, chemical storage containers, etc. (75%)

Standard office equipment - PC, telephone, fax, copier, etc.
Hardware platforms – Microsoft PC and OS
Software: MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Attendance:
Regular attendance mandatory (100%)
Overtime/work outside normal schedule required (20%)

Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others. Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance as required. Must be able to wear appropriate safety personal protective equipment. The work environment requires the ability to cooperate and work with individuals at all levels of the company and the client. A valid driver’s license is required.
