POSITION SCOPE
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Plant Mechanic will safely perform various combinations of the following tasks during a normal workday while upholding and demonstrating company values.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plant mechanics safely operate and maintain boilers, fans, pumps, air compressors, electric motors, engines, generators, HVAC systems, and heating systems in commercial and industrial buildings. They monitor boiler water levels and burners, temperatures and pressures, heating, cooling and ventilation systems. Engages in the installation, maintenance, adjustment, calibration, repair, and replacement of plant industrial machinery and mechanical equipment.
- Engages in the installation, maintenance, repair, and replacement of plant industrial machinery and mechanical equipment, such as repairing chains and drag conveyors, dust filters and grain cleaners.
- Engages in the installation, maintenance, adjustment, repair, and replacement of plant industrial plumbing and gas fitting systems.
- Engages in the assessment, cleaning, surface preparation, and painting of plant industrial machinery and work areas throughout the plant.
- Receives and interprets maintenance work orders. Ascertains appropriate tools and equipment required to complete the repair. Completes said repair, and the paperwork associated with closing the work order.
- Operates a large diversity of hand and power tools associated with the repair of heavy-duty plant equipment. This would include open end and adjustable wrenches, punches, hammers, pry bars, grinders, drills, chisels, taps, dies, bearing pullers, hydraulic presses, mills, files, welders, chop saws, calipers, screw drivers, auls, breaks, impact tools, snatch blocks, come alongs, chain falls, band saws, blast cabinets, dial-gauge indicators, lubrication equipment, etc.
- Completes small, in-house, turnkey design/build projects with an eye to improving plant efficiencies and safety.
- Completes formal, assigned, preventative maintenance tasks on various pieces of equipment.
- Problem solves equipment malfunctions in order to affect permanent solutions to chronic equipment reliability problems.
- Keeps personal work area and general shop areas clean and uncluttered, using push brooms, shovels, and rags.
- Keeps parts storage areas assigned to mechanical parts stocked and organized.
- Performs any assigned duties required, in order to assist other trades workers in the shop when additional help is needed.
- Assists operating personnel with the clean-up of occasional grain spills and the clearing of plugged spouts, chutes, and legs.
- Start time requested – 8, 10 and 12-hour shifts. Accepts after hours emergency call in requests, to repair defective plant equipment, outside the normal operating hours of the maintenance shop.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulics with ability to take voltage, amperage, OHM, pressure and/or flow reading in accordance with ladder and schematic diagrams and determine values.
- Ability to be certified to operate forklifts, scissors lifts, and hoists is required.
- Have an understanding of instrumentation and calibration principles.
- Knowledge of and commitment to general safety procedures in manufacturing environment.
- Ability to make effective, quick decisions while following company policies.
- Must have an analytical disposition, along with a willingness to adapt to and lead change.
- Ability to balance team and individual responsibilities, contributing to a positive team spirit.
- Demonstrate mechanical aptitude.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- High school degree or GED is required
- 4 years of relevant job experience
- Experience or education in brewing/malting industry is a huge plus
- Experience with Allen Bradley PLC systems and communication networks is preferred. Programming is a plus.
Compensation is based on the current CBA. Probationary period is 960 hours worked.
