Temporary teaching position - fill a long term vacancy through the end of 21/22 school year.

Under direction of the school principal and/or appropriate supervisor, the LTS (Long Term Substitute) will gain essential and meaningful teaching experience. Excellent performance in this capacity will position a teacher well to compete for permanent teaching positions in Providence Schools and elsewhere.

Compensation and benefits for this position are equal to the compensation and benefits of a regular teacher including salary according to the Providence teacher salary scale (including during school vacation) on a step determined by previous teaching experience (credit given for experience in accredited schools and/or in a certified capacity). Other benefits include paid sick days, generous health benefits, and paid professional development.

Under direction of the school principal and/or appropriate supervisor, initiate and implement a program of evaluation of appropriate subject area curriculum which would include a study of content, methods of instruction, and effectiveness.

Additionally, teachers will:
  • become members of a professional learning community where purposeful collaboration, flexibility, innovation and shared decision making are encouraged
  • participate in all district and school-based professional development inclusive of working with internal (coaches) and external (consultants) supports
  • support and nurture the academic, social-emotional, and physical needs of all students
  • participate in building a coalition of parent, community and business partners
  • engage in all district-driven curricular and other initiatives as defined by the Providence School Department
  • follow all relevant School Board Policy

  • Willingness to develop new, non-traditional curriculum with a Health focus and collaborate in decision-making with parents, students, community, faculty members and any other stakeholders
  • Willingness to work with a flexible time schedule
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Ability to lead an advisory program
  • Demonstrated ability to support Special Education students in a full inclusion program and willingness to work collaboratively with Special Education teacher(s)
  • Ability to deliver instruction using a hands-on, constructivist approach in a meaningful, standards-based and academically rigorous setting
  • Ability to work well with and demonstrate respect for language minority students and multicultural, multi-ethnic student populations and their families

Minimum Qualifications
  • BA in applicable field from accredited institution.
  • Must understand and be willing to work within the parameters of an Aligned Instruction System, including teaching a unified curriculum.
  • Record of involvement in professional organizations (such as National Middle School Association (NMSA), Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), Children and Adult with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD), Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) etc.)

  • You must complete the new hire compliance training prior to your first day of employment
  • Bilingual Preferred
  • Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check. Selected candidates cannot begin work until passing their background check.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with PC-based computer applications, Microsoft Office applications, email, web applications, and industry specific technology.
