The Photographer/Audio Visual/ Videographer position is involved in a variety of television production functions and print materials in the areas of photography, production and graphic arts for programming on the City of Detroit communication platforms. This position is involved in the performance of a variety of television production functions in the areas of videography, directing, producing, editing, writing, lighting, and graphic arts for programming appearing on the Media Services public education and government access channels. The position must demonstrate proficiencies in Electronic News Gathering (ENG) and Electronic Field Productions (EFP), and be able to operate in-house duplication equipment. The position may be responsible for the total video production package. Creativity is encouraged.

Examples of Duties

  • Operate all equipment used in photo productions. Take black-and-white and color photographs of persons, groups and ceremonies.
  • Assist with editing and producing audio/visual productions of a variety of subjects and events.
  • Consult with appropriate staff regarding layout, format, and special processing requirements.
  • Complete photo productions within the requested time frames – provide production progress reports.
  • Effective at organizing and coordinating shoots.
  • Ensure readiness of field equipment for use on location and in-house.
  • Generate discrepancy reports when there is a problem with any equipment and complete all forms/reports as required.
  • Enthusiastic and creative; demonstrate ability to meet deadlines and objectives.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Perform related or similar duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduation or G.E.D;

Preferably completion of two years of college with courses in chemistry, physics, and some coursework in photography and completion of some advance coursework in criminal justice.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Training in film/television or related field required, along with a minimum of three years of experience in video and audio production.
  • Must demonstrate experience with non-linear editing and graphic design.
  • Must be familiar with 2D/3D compositing and visual effects.
  • Must have experience working with online and social media.
  • Must have experience with video and audio compression software.
  • Must possess excellent script writing and grammar skills.
  • Must be able to use direct software such as Adobe, Premier, and Adobe After Effects.

Supplemental Information

  • Excellent working knowledge of state-of-the-art photography equipment.
  • Must be skilled in color perception and possess fine attention to visual and composition detail with ability to color correct photos as necessary.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with good eye for detail.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong working knowledge of broadcast production and post-production.

  • Proficient in Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premier Editing Systems.
  • Fluent in digital cinema, HD production, editing, animation and graphics technologies.
  • Competency with digital audio editing and mixing techniques.
  • Must be skilled in color perception and possess fine attention to visual and composition detail with ability to color correct video as necessary.
  • Proficient in MS Office and project management software tools. CAD experience helpful.
  • Ability to interact with the public and co-workers in a positive professional manner.
  • Ability to work independently and as an effective member of a team.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with good eye for detail.
  • Ability to effectively work in a cross-cultural environment.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must be able to use a computer.
  • Must be able to lift and transport equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to adjust schedule to work evenings, special event work, which could occur on weekends, if applicable.
