Job Description

We are looking for a Phlebotomist CPT for the Clinical Laboratory at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

Location: Santa Rosa, CA

Work Schedule: Full Time - 80 Biweekly Hours

Shift: 8-hour, Days

Job Summary:

Primary responsibility is to accurately identify patients, collect high quality blood specimens on inpatients, and deliver samples to the laboratory in a timely fashion.

Essential Functions:

  • Identify patients correctly 100% of the time using at least 2 patient identifiers according to procedure.
  • Introduce self and provide explanation for procedures to patients in a positive, supportive, and courteous manner according to procedure (AIDET).
  • Prepare collection or specimen labels as required.
  • Competently perform phlebotomy (i.e., with minimum trauma), whether by venipuncture or capillary puncture, to ensure highest quality specimens.
  • Deliver, process, and/or distribute lab specimens in a timely manner to the specified clinical testing departments.
  • Place samples on analytical instrument (e.g., DxH Hematology analyzer) or equipment (e.g., centrifuges).
  • May need to order tests, combine orders, or cancel tests with notification, according to procedure.
  • As needed, provide accurate communication to hospital clinical staff regarding the proper ordering and requirements of lab tests.

Skills:

  • Skilled in performing phlebotomy, including skin punctures, on infants, children and adults.
  • Knowledge of and facility with basic computer and administrative skills.
  • Answer telephone or respond to inquiries using proper etiquette.
  • Ability to organize workload for optimum efficiency.
  • Positive communication and interpersonal skills, especially verbal.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology.

Minimum Position Requirements:

Education:

  • Coursework/Training - Continuing Education Units; 6 units every 2 years.
  • Coursework/Training - Phlebotomy courses from a California State approved School of Phlebotomy (see State Phlebotomy regulations).

Licenses/Certifications: Current California Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certificate issued by the State of California.

Preferred Position Qualifications:

Experience: Laboratory, medical office, or hospital experience.
