POSITION TITLE: Pharmacy Technician
REPORTS TO: Pharmacy Manager

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:
Under direct supervision, assists pharmacists in receiving and processing physicians’ orders
and dispensing medications. Provides customer service to pharmacy customers.
COMPANY WIDE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Contributes toward ensuring a positive shopping environment for customers and a
positive working environment for employees.
- Ensures proper product handling to control shrinkage and waste.
- Follows all company, store, and department policies and procedures.
- Complies with federal and state regulations.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Obtains new and refill prescription information from customers.
- Verifies and enters prescription details into the computer to update patient medical
records.
- Retrieves, counts and measures drugs, compounds and mixes medications, and prepares
labels, according to state law.
- Operates cash register. Assists customers locating OTC (over the counter) products.
- Ensures that customers have received the Privacy Policy and are aware of certain
HIPAA-based patient rights.
- Prepares insurance claim forms.
- Orders, stocks, and stores medications and other pharmacy related items. Price-checks
drugs.
- May assist pharmacists with training and the continuing education of pharmacy clerks
and other technicians, including HIPAA privacy training for all associates who handle or
access protected health information.
- Encourages teamwork through cooperative interactions with co-workers.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree; one to six months related
experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions,
proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of
basic algebra and geometry.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in oneon-
one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the
organization.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved
written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete
variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification; or must be working toward
certification.
FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use the hands
to handle, finger or feel objects, tools or controls, and to talk or hear. The employee is
frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally
required to stand, walk, and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must frequently lift
and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close
vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a retail store environment where there is occasional exposure to wet
surfaces, refrigerated storage areas, damp or humid conditions, and heated surfaces. The
noise level is moderate, consistent with a retail store environment, and does include
occasional noise of power tools and equipment.

Pay: $13.00 - $18.00 per hour
