The University of Miami has an exciting opportunity for a Per-diem Pharmacy Technician.

Under the direct supervision of the pharmacist the pharmacy technician assists the pharmacist in compounding, dispensing, maintaining appropriate patient records and charges, managing clerical duties, and distributing pharmaceutical supplies upon receiving prescriptions or requisitions. Technicians must function in strict accordance with standard, written procedures and guidelines with deviation approved by the supervising pharmacist.

Accountabilities:

Delivery Technician

  • Accurately delivers unit-dose patient medications.
  • Promptly delivers individual patient medications to and from the appropriate clinics and inpatient units.
  • Charges and returns medications using the UChart system.
  • Accurately maintains and files completed IV room orders.
  • Upon request from the IV room, appropriate profiles are searched for and brought to the anteroom.
  • Assists in answering telephones calls , receiving and relaying messages as appropriate when OE technician is busy with another call.
  • Answers door for visitors and hospital personnel.

2. Order Entry Technician

  • Assists pharmacist in compounding, labeling, pre-packing, and dispensing medicinal products.
  • Accurately refills medication kits (e.g., OR trays, tackle boxes, emergency crash carts) within a timely manner.
  • Recognizes and corrects unreasonable charge entries.
  • Controls computer system to print labels, manage departmental charges, and send MARs on demand.
  • Organizes and maintains orders (ie: linking orders) scanned-in via pyxis connect.
  • Answers door for visitors and hospital personnel.
  • Promptly answers telephones calls , within three rings, in order to reduce non-essential interruptions and to provide excellent customer service to hospital personnel.
  • Triages all incoming calls to provide information and refer calls to the appropriate co-worker or supervisor.

3. IV & Chemo Room Technician

  • Assists pharmacists in the aseptic preparation and proper labeling of total parenteral nutrition solutions, injectable chemotherapy, antibiotics, and other medications for parenteral therapy.
  • Wears protective equipment (gloves, gowns, masks, goggles, and foot coverings), appropriate to the task being performed whenever hazardous chemicals and medications are being handled/prepared.
  • Receives and stocks incoming supplies, verifies and maintains in-stock quantities, and informs supervisors of medication shortages and needs.
  • Accurately follows the IV room clean garbing and attire guideline posted in the anteroom.
  • Primes the appropriate number of IV bags in preparation for the next workday.

4. Pyxis Technican

  • Accurately and efficiently delivers floor stock and individual patient medications to and from clinics and inpatient units.
  • Insures automated pyxis machines are accurately refilled and appropriate stock is maintained.
  • Assists in answering telephones calls , receiving and relaying messages as appropriate when OE technician is busy with another call.
  • Answers door for visitors and hospital personnel.

5. Performs all other job related duties as assigned by supervisor.

  • Manages own conduct, performance and attitude including time, space and paper, ethics, attendance and punctuality, and customer focus.
  • Maintains proper dress code and properly displays an identification badge or nametag at all times.
  • Completes all quizzes, evaluation tools, competency checklists and any other written assignments and returns to supervisor within designated time frame.
  • Participates in the pharmacy performance improvement plan and understands how it supports the hospitals mission and vision.
  • Assists pharmacist in the receipt, checking, pricing, stocking and rotation of all orders from wholesalers and manufacturers and in the organization of outdated or overstocked medications for return to destruction.
  • f) Maintains a tidy, dust free, and well stocked area in the unit-dose, intravenous admixture, chemotherapy, refrigerator, floor stock, and outpatient pharmacy areas.
  • Maintains a team attitude, and supports fellow colleagues in areas that are busiest.

MINIMUM REQUIRMENTS:

  • State of Florida Pharmacy Technician License
  • One year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician including preparation of aseptic solutions and inpatient and outpatient drug distribution systems preferred.
  • Certification is preferred.
