Job Description

The Peer Recovery Specialist (PRS) is responsible for encouraging treatment, providing positive social interactions, sharing story of recovery, and empowering clients. Assist, teach, model, coach, support, encourage clients on home visits, and follow-up services as defined by the Peer Recovery Specialist Plan. Provides direct service delivery in the community within flexible hours, develops and implements appropriate recovery planning, provides crisis intervention and emergency services, interacts and coordinates with law enforcement and other criminal justice agencies, as well as utilizes center-wide and community resources as needed for client benefit. Responsible for scheduled rotating on-call responsibilities. Embraces the key values of recovery: self-determination, personal responsibility, and empowerment.

This position requires utilizing a personal dependable vehicle to conduct Center business. Maintaining a dependable vehicle and certified driver status is a condition of employment.

REQUIREMENTS

Education/Knowledge: Must have at least a high school diploma or Bachelor's degree in the human services field, be a State of Tennessee Certified Peer Recovery Specialist or working toward your Certification for Peer Recovery Specialist.

Experience: Must have firsthand life experience with mental illness and/or substance use, the judicial system and a desire to be a role model for recovery.

Applicants should possess the ability to relate to individuals and families of varied ethnic and cultural backgrounds, ages, educational levels, and economic circumstances with respect and dignity. Excellent verbal, written, and computer skills are necessary in order to work effectively and collaboratively with clients, collaborating agencies, and community professionals, as well as maintaining proper documentation. Clinical staff members must possess reliable transportation, the ability to acquire an F endorsement on driver's license, and transport clients.

Skills: Must have strong communication skills. Must be comfortable with working with professional members of the community, including but not limited to law enforcement, psychologists and counselors, attorneys, and other case managers. Must be able to perform job responsibilities on an independent level.

Physical: Exposure to biological hazards. Hearing of normal and soft tones as well as close eye work. Lifting up to 50 lbs. Pushing/pulling up to 150 lbs. Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching. To ensure the safety of the clients and staff, this position requires certification in and adequate implementation of verbal and physical de-escalation techniques (Handle with Care) that include a wide range of bodily movements including but not limited to grasping, holding another person, going down on knees, running, and walking. Valid driver's license- "F" endorsement and a personal dependable vehicle to conduct community outreach and response. Maintaining a dependable vehicle and certified driver status is a condition of employment.
