Overview: The Ward Family Heart Center at Children’s Mercy Hospital, Kansas City, is seeking a general pediatric cardiologist to provide primary coverage at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, KS (60 miles from Kansas City). While a member of the Heart Center faculty, this position will provide services primarily in our affiliated Topeka clinic. Our Heart Center serves a population of over 5 million in the heart of the USA. We perform over 500 cardiac operations (including hybrid procedures, transplants and VAD’s), at least 700 cardiac catheterizations (including over 230 EP procedures), 18000 outpatient visits, 20000 ECGs, 2000 Holters, 400 stress tests and 18000 echocardiograms annually. In 2019 we were ranked #19 nationally by USNWR. Team-based super-specialties include Cardiac Transplantation/Heart Failure, Fetal Cardiology with on-site delivery services for high-risk neonates in our Fetal Health Center, Interstage monitoring (CHAMP), Preventive Cardiology, Cardiac Genetics, Cardio-oncology, Pulmonary Hypertension and Cardiac Neurodevelopmental Services.
Stormont Vail Health System consists of Cotton O’Neil, a multi-specialty clinic with over 30 primary and specialty clinics, and Stormont Vail Hospital, which has 586 licensed beds and is Magnet recognized for excellence in nursing. It has the region’s only level 3 NICU (45 beds), a 6-bed PICU and the region’s only level II trauma center. Clinical responsibilities at Stormont Vail Hospital will include staffing the outpatient clinics (3-4 days per week), interpretation of echocardiograms, ECGs and Holters and weekday consults in the NICU and PICU. There is no night-time or weekend call. An interest in expanding our fetal program to Stormont Vail is desirable but not required. Our Topeka-based cardiologist will have ample opportunity to participate in our Kansas City-based teaching and clinical conferences via video conferencing. The successful candidate will join an existing group of 32 cardiologists, 3 surgeons and 30 APNs. Board eligibility in Pediatric Cardiology is required. Flexibility, strong communication and collaborative skills are key. There are opportunities for clinical research and teaching medical students, residents and fellows. Salary and academic rank are commensurate with experience.
