The Payroll Tax Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all actives of the payroll taxes and garnishment functions to ensure the timely and accurate remittance in accordance with governmental regulations. Manages the accuracy and completeness of postings and reconciliation of various tax withholdings. This position is the payroll staff resource for questions regarding tax and garnishment. The Payroll Tax Supervisor requires both a broad and thorough knowledge of the payroll discipline and taxes in multi-state and multi-company.
Primary/Major Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
- Ensure compliance with legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
- Research, resolve and communicate complex payroll tax issues.
- Works with the payroll staff to correct tax errors and assists in department education efforts regarding taxes.
- Research, resolve and communicate complex payroll garnishment issues.
- Assists with tax initiatives related to payroll.
- Reconcile general ledger account for both taxes and garnishment.
- Oversee the tax and garnishment payment and filing process.
- Coordinates year-end activities with other department leads including preparing W2's for in house payroll as well as coordinating the year-end activities for outsourced payroll.
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide special project support as needed in the Payroll Department.
- Participates and coordinates internal and external audits of payroll controls, tax data, and records.
- Comprehensive knowledge of payroll taxes (Federal, state, and local tax regulations) and deductions.
- Must be familiar with payroll software and procedures used for processing taxes (ADP Tax Software).
- Generates strategic thinking, problem solving, and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal skills as this position communicates via phone and e-mail with sites, employees and managers.
- Able to comprehend and review complex payroll work with accuracy while working under time constraints.
- Must be able to operate office machines, including a computer, copier, fax and 10-key by touch as well as make arithmetic calculations.
- Maintain cooperative working relationships; demonstrate sensitivity to, and respect for, a diverse population. Supervisor should show a strong commitment to teamwork and collaboration.
- Excellent attention to detail required.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Knowledge and experience with Deltek products
- Associates degree in accounting
- CPP/FPC certification
