Position Summary

The Patient Escorter-Transporter II is an integral member of the patient care team. Transporter II's are responsible for ensuring the provision of quality patient care and safety during transport of patients through utilization of safety devices and close observation. During the transport of cardiac monitored patients, he/she will ensure safe patient monitoring during transport and trouble shoot cardiac monitors' alarms, parameters and equipment. The Patient Escorter-Transporter II will transport lab specimens and medications that are needed to appropriate units/departments. He/she will demonstrate knowledge of appropriate technology systems and have basic computer skills. The Transporter will also be responsible for other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

1. Ensure the provision of quality patient care during transport:

Provision of blankets and pillows during transport.

Ensure patients are transported in caring and dignified manner.

Ensure patient is soil free prior and post transport.

Assist patient with bathroom needs (bed pan / urinal), emesis basin.

Answer questions according to policy.

Adhere to Red Rules, be knowledgeable of O2 regulations, IVs, and Ticket to Ride.

Confidentially maintain patient logs.

Greet employees and patients and give directions to visitors.

Maintain clean equipment and keep hallways clear of equipment.
2. Transport lab specimens and medications are required.

Deliver IV admixtures to appropriate nursing units or departments.

Maintain aseptic techniques when delivering lab specimens.
3. Demonstrate knowledge of Tele-Tracking System by performing the following successfully:

Log in, enter zone as assigned, obtain patient info, add help, enter delay codes as required, reschedule/cancel jobs, change job status (dispatched, in progress and complete).

Log onto break/lunch as advised and log out at end of shift.

Coordinate with dispatcher to ensure all scheduled procedures are completed prior to transport back to home unit.
4. Perform clerical duties

Operate single and multi-line phones, transfer calls, answer general inquiries, ability to communicate clearly with patients, family and other health care members.
5. Adheres to dress code. Responsible for knowledge and adherence to hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Attends in-service and staff meetings as required. Fulfills mandatory requirements annually.
7. Other duties as assigned.
6. During transport of cardiac monitored patients, monitor patient condition.

Effectively collaborate with clinical staff through detailed communication to ensure safe patient monitoring during transport.

Troubleshoot cardiac monitor alarms, parameters and equipment.

Review Lead/pleth placement and maintainance and equipment.

Assist with alarm response.

Minimum Requirements

High School or equivalent

EKG/ECG interpretation class or work experience is required

Less than 1 year in a Healthcare setting is required.

Basic computer skills are preferred

EKG/ECG Intepretation Certification is preferred

Current American Heart Association CPR is required.
