Job Description
- Responds to calls for service, providing assessment, treatment modalities, and transportation of patients in a variety of controlled and uncontrolled settings. Provides treatment interventions and advanced life support consistent with department guidelines and according to credentials issued by state authorities. Provides emergency care and rescue in a variety of situations where personal safety may be at risk. May be needed to assist with the continuum of care in transferring of patients from one setting to another. Attend required training and certification programs, maintaining certain certifications as required by the department or Medical. First-line supervision of EMS providers in the field. Assists/Serves as back up to the Shift Supervisor with coordination of clinical response and operational activities during the shift. May be assigned other tasks relating to EMS operations as necessary. Responsible for additional duties to include: assuring equipment is operational and present on all ambulances, assisting with supply inventory, identifying “in the field” needs, finding resolution to issues and/or reporting issues to Shift Supervisor.
- KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Licensed as a PARAMEDIC by the Georgia Department of Human Resources, for a minimum of four years.
- Preferred minimum of three years’ experience.
- Current certification in BLS, ACLS.
- Certifications in PHTLS, AMLS, ASLS, STABLE, GEMS, CCEMTP is preferred.
- NIMS ICS courses required within 9 months of employment are 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800.
- A technical certificate in supervisory management is preferred.
- An associate degree in EMS or related field is preferred.
- A valid driver’s license and maintain a good driving history in accordance with company insurance standards.
- Supervisory skills needed include scheduling, materials/equipment maintenance, performance appraisal, delegating, decision-making, teamwork enhancement, constructive counseling.
- Must be able to negotiate relationship situations.
- Must maintain knowledge and ability in clinical skills, and general knowledge of relative information to the department, medical center, and EMS regionally and statewide.
- If not current in PALS, must complete certification within 12 months from hire date.
