Shifts available:

Full time, Days, Rotating Weekends, 36 hrs/week

Full time, Nights, Rotating Weekends, 36 Hrs/week

Shift hours:

Day shift: 7am-7pm

Night shift: 7pm-7am



Reporting to the Clinical Nurse Manager, with accountability to the care team, provides basic nursing and personal care to patients as delegated by and under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age(s) of the patients served on the assigned unit.

1. Provides patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Assists patients with ADL’s, answering and responding to patient call lights, bed making, etc.

2. Obtains patient temperature, pulse, respirations, pulse oximetry, blood pressure, input and output checks, blood glucose checks, and reports abnormalities to the appropriate individual. As directed by RN, performs procedures such as thermal applications, perineal care, application of restraints, backrubs, etc. Collects specimens such as urine, feces, sputum, and delivers as necessary.

3. Documents basic patient care and supply and equipment orders as directed per unit protocol.

4. Safely and consistently operates patient handling equipment utilizing knowledge of correct usage of equipment.

5. Transports non-controlled substance medications. May be authorized to access secured medication storage locations to perform job related functions.

6. Assists nursing and clerical staff with admitting, discharging, transferring, ambulating, transporting, and observing patients to ensure safety as directed. May perform duties of a Continuous Observation Assistant as needed.

7. Assists with and adequately answers unit phones and can effectively direct phone calls to the appropriate parties.

8. Provides care of equipment and supplies on unit as assigned.

9. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships. Acts with integrity, consistency and respect for differing views. Identifies factors that interfere with effective team functioning and contributes in a resolution. Treats each individual with compassion, respect and integrity.

10. Adheres to all Northwest Community Hospital standards, policies, and procedures.


Qualifications
1. High school diploma required or 5 years’ experience as a CNA/PCT with 3 years’ minimum experience in an acute care setting - required.

2. Completion of an Accredited Certified Nursing Assistance course (CNA) , EMT or paramedics training course, OR current enrollment in an accredited nursing program with completion of at least one major clinical medical or surgical rotation required.

3. Current CPR certification issued by America Heart Association required.

4. Knowledge of and/or experience in the correct use of body mechanics.

5. Data entry or order entry experience on a computer preferred.

6. The interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with patients, families, physicians, and other hospital staff.

7. The organization skills necessary to prioritize and accomplish multiple work assignments in a proficient manner under minimal supervision.

8. The ability to proficiently navigate computer software systems with accurate keyboard skills for the entry and retrieval of patient data.

9. The verbal and written English skills necessary to clearly and effectively communicate information.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Requires continuous standing and walking for most of shift. Requires frequent bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, and overhead reaching and frequent lifting and carrying of 15 lbs. to 30 lbs. Requires occasional lifting and carrying of 30 lbs. to 70 lbs. and occasional pushing/pulling of up to 300 lbs in wheeled equipment.

2. Flow of work requires concentrated mental, visual, and auditory attention. Concentrated mental, visual, and auditory attention combined with manual dexterity is required for sustained periods of time.

3. Requires visual acuity adequate to assess patients and read/record patient charts.

4. Requires auditory acuity adequate to converse with patients, take phone orders, and receive directions from physicians and coworkers who are wearing masks.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Conditions are acceptable. At least one disagreeable element or hazard is frequently present in the environment, i.e. infectious diseases. Other disagreeable elements or hazards which may occasionally be present include biophysical hazards and high pressure medical gases.
