Scope of Position

The Ohio State University Medical Center is committed to enhancing the quality of care our patients receive. The Patient Care Associate (PCA) functions as an integral member of a team of care providers on a patient care unit who reflect a culture of cooperation, enthusiasm, and mutual respect. The team, consisting of the Registered Nurse, the Patient Care Associate (PCA), the Patient Services Associate (PSA), Student Nursing Assistant (SNA) and the Unit Clerical Associate (UCA) provides patient care and supportive services directed towards achievement of patient care outcomes, maximizing the patient's involvement in his/her own plan of care, improving services levels, reducing the length of hospitalization and decreasing costs. Patients and their family will experience the benefits of patient focused care through the integrated skills of all care team members.

24-hour inpatient unit for neurologically impaired patients and/or orthopedic patients requiring rehabilitation.

Position Summary

The PCA is responsible for providing a variety of direct and indirect patient care activities as supervised and directed by the Registered Nurse. Care is provided in collaboration with the patient, family and other members of the patient focused care. The PCA demonstrates Intensive Caring Values in interactions with patients, visitors and staff. Overall responsibilities are to assist the team in meeting patient care needs.

Minimum Education Required
HS Graduate or Equivalent or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent education and experience required; Previous patient care experience in an acute care hospital setting preferred; Strong customer service, organizational and time management skills; Successful completion of PCA training course required after hire
