Job Description

Position Summary:The Patient Care Associate (PCA) reports to the Nurse Manager and is responsible for providing patient care and other technical and clinical support activities as directed by the Registered Nurse.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Perform basic nursing care and treatment procedures on assigned patients as directed by the RN. Observe and document vital signs. Assist in preparing the patient for procedures. Rounding on patients and monitoring patients for safety. Assists patients with ambulation as needed.
  • Maintain appropriate levels of medical supplies and equipment. Maintain neat and orderly department, patient rooms, and storage rooms. Maintain regulatory readiness at all times. Clean and stock nursing stations, Clean IV poles, charts, and chart racks. Strips soiled linen, cleans bed and equipment in patient room. Perform other housekeeping duties as needed. Cleans and stores equipment and supplies after completion of work, cleans and straightens shelves, maintains linen supply, and assists with equipment retrieval as needed. Checks and stocks oxygen tanks, gowns and blankets to ensure availability for patient care.
  • Performs and documents POC Blood Glucose Testing, POC Pregnancy testing, and QC checks. Checks and logs blanket warmer temperature.
  • Transports patients interdepartmentally or to discharge door.
  • Participates in team member development programs. Attends scheduled staff meetings and is responsible for information discussed. Participates in the I3/Lean initiative at Lake Health. Maintains annual competencies.

Experience and Education:High School Diploma or GED required. Phlebotomy experience is desirable. BLS (Basic Life Support) through the American Heart Association is required.
