WHAT YOU WILL DO
Initiate IV catheter with blood draws as required, after successful completion of FH Peripheral IV Course.
Perform other clerical duties and communicate any pertinent or special information related to testing such as EKG requirements or specimen handling, to patients, OP Techs, PCC, service line staff (pre-testing, neuro-diagnostics, dietary counselling), or others as required.
Participate in monitoring, identifying and reporting safety-related issues.
Answer questions about treatment plan within the expected scope or refers questions to RN.
Assist with admissions, daily care, transporting, ambulation, and discharge of patients as assigned by the RN.
Assist with mammography biopsies.
Communicate and report patient data and information to the RN to ensure appropriate and timely care is provided to the patient.
Maintain proficiency in point of care test protocols and procedures, including properly labeled specimens.
Maintain unit supplies, prepares patient rooms and medical records, enters charges, and answers a multi-line telephone to assist in the safe and efficient operation of the unit.
May be trained to observe ECG on closed-circuit monitor and report dysrhythmias or rhythm changes to the appropriate personnel, operate and troubleshoot all monitor station equipment and maintains monitor station records and dysrhythmias strip.
Collect, analyze and record all required demographic, insurance/financial, and clinical data necessary to verify and record patient information as required.
Work with and supports patients with meals, fluids, and nourishment to ensure the RN's instructions are adhered to.
WHAT IT TAKES TO SUCCEED
A CNA Certification in the state of Indiana, and a High School Diploma or GED.
Prior healthcare experience is preferred.
Learn and apply extensive registration and financial information.
Intermediate computer knowledge.
Adapt to high volume and high stress areas.
Understanding of billing and collection systems.
Customer service skills.
Knowledge of financial and business management principles.
Infection control knowledge.
Develop effective relationships with patients, hospital departments, and other external parties.
Time management.
Effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
Organizational Skills.
Understanding of common medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
