POSITION TITLE: Patient Accounts Representative
DEPARTMENT: Grand River Health Specialty Clinic
REPORTS TO: Grand River Health Clinic Manager
The Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act requires employers in the state of Colorado to disclose the following information. Hourly (salary) minimum $16.88, hourly (salary) maximum $19.28. The base hourly (salary) range above represents the low and high end of the range for this position. Actual hourly (salary) rates may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to: experience, education, and training.
Pay is just one component to prospective employees’ compensation package. Compensation may also include shift differentials. JOB PURPOSE: To improve the health and wellbeing of our communities.
BASIC FUNCTION: Offer an exceptional patient experience at the reception area of Grand River Health Clinics. Ensures patients have been cleared for specialty service office visits. Resolves pre-certification, registration and case-related concerns prior to a patient's appointment. Gathers pertinent information from insurance carriers, financial counselors, and other ancillary staff to make certain the patient's financial obligations for services provided. Provides support to clinical staff in order to facilitate the administrative components of clinical referrals for various services. Acts as a liaison between hospitals, physicians, health plans, vendors, and patients, or other referral sources . Enters referrals and documents communications, actions, and other data in an information system. Perform duties related to check in, check out, payment collection, and scheduling appointments. Maintain positive, professional, and helpful demeanor and always put patient needs first. Greet patients upon arrival and update all necessary patient information, including demographics and insurance information. Notify medical assistants of patient arrival and communicate with patient any delays. Offer a friendly environment at the end of the patient’s appointment, collect payment, schedule any necessary follow-up appointments, and coordinate patient orders and referrals. Be responsible for money collected and report accordingly. Scan paperwork into electronic systems. Schedule walk-in appointments as necessary. Serve as the first point of contact for patients within facility and portray Grand River in positive, professional light. Communicate continuously with patients and coworkers. Performs a variety of tasks and other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Experience: Experience in clinic setting preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of dictation equipment and computer programs, including word-processing and spreadsheet applications. Knowledge and proper use of grammar, spelling, punctuation, proofing, document formatting and basic math skills. Skills needed to effectively communicate with patients, coworkers, and providers. Familiarity with all office equipment: copier, multi-line phones, fax machine, etc. Familiar with clinic practice management system and electronic health record. Must have exceptional oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work well and communicate with others. Must be able to demonstrate accuracy in processing detailed information. Must have effective problem solving skills and be able to handle multiple tasks with interruptions. Comfort developing positive relationships with team members and providers. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in relation to HIPAA regulations. Must be proficient within six (6) months of hire in Allscripts Touchworks, Allscripts PM, Touchchart, Instamed, FMG Dashboard, Galactica, Meditech, HealthStream and Kronos.

WORKING CONDITIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock and risk of radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee may be subject to daily exposure and risk of blood borne pathogens, bacteria, toxic substances, body fluids, communicable diseases, equipment noise and occasionally the combative patient. Other conditions may exist which are common to the hospital patient floor environment and a clinical health care setting.
