Job Description

We're looking for someone to join our team as a Patient Access Representative who:

The representative is responsible for pre-admitting/admitting/transferring and discharging patients in all areas of the hospital. The associate accumulates and enters all necessary demographic, clinical and billing information in the computer system with timeliness and accuracy. Back up to Concierge and Resource Scheduling. Authorizations, insurance verifications and maintaining knowledge of insurance contracts, out of network contracts and working closely with physicians’ offices.

This position is also responsible for all switchboard functions of receiving incoming calls, paging, placement of outgoing calls and monitoring various alarm systems. Also acts in the capacity of a cashier. This position requires exceptional customer service skills in addition to proficiency in PBX functions and admitting functions. Must have the ability to work with minimum supervision. Additionally, any other Business Office functions/projects as directed.

Essential Functions

Admitting/Registration:

– Pre-admit, admit, discharge and transfer patients in all areas of the hospital, explain policies, responds to questions related to patient registration, and gather all necessary information and patient signature on required forms according to hospital policy and procedures

– Ensures 98% accuracy in documenting patient demographic and financial information in the hospitals registration / ADT system.

– Assigns patients being admitted to their room, notifies designated nursing station of patient’s arrival and arranges transport of patient to their room

– Notifies appropriate outpatient departments when the patient has arrived and provides directions to the destination

Booking and Scheduling:

– In collaboration with inpatient admission, OR, Cath Lab, Radiology and other departments, coordinates the booking and scheduling of patients and transmits bookings to concierge throughout the shift

– Actively solicits information from patients, doctor’s office staff and insurance companies to complete the Admission Questionnaire form and insurance pre-certification information and authorization for the visit

– Performs scheduling functions as directed by management.

PBX Operator/Admitting/Registration

– Always receives calls promptly and courteously and forwards appropriately, timely and accurately

– Always displays a courteous and professional tone at all times

Other Business Office Duties:

– Assists in developing recommendations to maintain efficient and effective admission/ registration processes

– Assists in developing recommendations to maintain efficient and effective pre-certification/benefits verification processes

Education/Experience

You'll be successful with the following qualifications:

  • Education: High School graduate, or equivalent required; two-year degree a plus.
  • Experience: 1-2 years in related field; health care experience preferred. Three (3) years customer service experience.
