Work Hours/Shift:
Part Time/Days
You will be responsible for:
- Accurately transcribes pathology reports, including surgical, cytology and bone marrow reports using computer system. Checks reports for accuracy and distributes/faxes reports, as required. Receives and handles pathology phone calls.
- Compiles reports and sends tissue (nerve, muscle and lymph nodes), slides and blocks for outside consultation.
- Assists pathologists with frozen section staining, accessioning pathology cases, etc. May be required to assist Cytotechnologist with preparation of cytology specimens. Adds fixative to preserve the specimens. Detoxifies and discards old surgical specimens. Maintains frozen section stains.
- Files and retrieves surgical, cytology and bone marrow reports, slides and blocks. Discards materials after 10 years. Provides reports and materials requested by patient or patient representative (adult or geriatric).
- Follows safety and infection control policies of the laboratory and all other hospital policies and procedures.
- Ensures proper level or supplies and reagents for the pathology and phlebotomy departments. Ensures all equipment is properly maintained, cleaned and operating within normal parameters.
Qualifications
What You Will Need:
- High school diploma required
- Two years of pathology experience are required
- Certification in Medical Transcription (CMT) preferred
- Extensive knowledge of pathology, cellular anatomy and physiology are required.
- Excellent transcription skills are required. Must be able to type 140 lines per hour (based on 65 and 73 characters per line) while maintaining 95% accuracy.
- Must be knowledgeable about Laboratory Information Systems.
- Excellent communication skills are required.
- Must be proficient in English.
Job Summary:
Responsible for accurate transcription and distribution of pathology reports, including surgical, cytology and bone marrow reports. Maintains Pathology Office Manual, surgical pathology room and morgue. Answers pathology phone calls, accepts lab orders, faxes reports to physician offices and schedules frozen sections. Files pathology slides, reports and blocks. Assists pathologist with frozen sections and other pathology duties. Obtains or provides information for assigned adult or geriatric patients or family members. Responsibilities include the adherence to the AdventHealth Deland Corporate Compliance Plan, to the rules and regulations of all local, state, and federal agencies and to the standards of all accrediting bodies.
