Primary Function
Under the direct supervision of the Office Manager, performs various functions to facilitate smooth operation by registering patients according to the established clinical guidelines, insurance regulations and regulatory requirements to facilitate quality patient care and timely reimbursements. Greets patients, answers telephones, schedules outpatient appointments, and pre-registers new patients if applicable. Patient population ranges from young adulthood to late adulthood.
- Schedules and pre-registers new outpatient appointments by following departmental guidelines, accurately searching and selecting correct patient and provider by utilizing STAR and tools provided if applicable.
- Collects and/or updates all demographic and encounter specific information including verifying insurance and referral requirements utilizing the computer software programs via the hospital information system in order to accurately complete the registration pathway, observing HIPAA and other regulatory requirements
- Completes eligibility verification process including coverage requirements and identifies patient liability and payments due. Post payment transactions into hospital software program and balance daily receipts.
- Accurately identifies uninsured patients or financial need and refers to financial assistance
- Retrieves medical reports from referring physician practices or facilities to ensure quality care. Additionally, upon request, provides copies or faxing of medical reports to physician practices, facilities and patients.
Experience:
Previous hospital registration and healthcare insurance experience preferred. Experience working in healthcare related industry required with emphasis on business office activities. PC skills required.
Education & Training:
High school graduate or equivalent; formal secretarial training preferred.
