Survey Party Chief II


Introduction

Merrick & Company has a nationally recognized Geomatics Business Unit that is immediately seeking a Survey Party Chief I to be based out of our Duluth, GA office. Local candidates preferred.


Job Description

Merrick & Company is seeking career and quality minded individuals for challenging projects including all types of Boundary, GPS, Photogrammetry, Easement/Right of Way, ALTAs, Topographic Surveys and Construction Layout. Successful candidate will work under direct supervision of a Professional Land Surveyor and party chief. Local candidates preferred.


Requirements

  • Experience: Six (6) plus years of survey experience required with minimum three (3) years experience leading a survey crew.
  • Skills: Proficient with optical and electronic survey field equipment. Experience with Trimble equipment is a benefit. Knowledge of mathematical principles, land survey terminology, field survey methods and techniques and safe work practices.
  • Duties: Work under the direction of a Professional Land Surveyor to complete surveys for various public and private clients including federal, state, and municipal institutions, developers, contractors, and private landowners.
  • Travel: Work will be located locally and regionally. Candidate may be required to travel up to one (1) week at a time and occasionally up to three (3) weeks at a time.
  • Must pass background test.
  • Must meet expectations for attendance and punctuality.
  • A valid driver’s license, a clean DMV record and evidence of insurability is required.
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Associates degree in Survey/Geomatics or Technical two-year degree preferred.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Tasks

  • Complete various types of surveys including boundary, ALTA, topographic, as-built, easement/right of way, construction, and other types of land surveys.
  • Preparation of field notes, project sketches and photographs.
  • Adherence to company quality standards and procedures.
  • Communicate with clients, contractors, and the public on project sites.
  • Supervise and lead field crew members in carrying out daily operations.
  • Ensure crew is properly equipped with personal protection equipment and following company safety procedures.
  • Maintain survey truck including routine service and inspections. Maintain survey equipment including scheduling cleaning and calibrations as needed.
  • Complete other duties as required or directed by the Professional Land Surveyor.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in variable climate and environmental conditions including extreme temperatures, precipitation, and wet/muddy conditions.
  • Physically mobile in and around construction sites and other field locations.
  • Ability to regularly carry survey instruments and equipment in remote, rural, or urban surroundings (up to 25 pounds)
  • Ability to occasionally lift/ move up to 50 pounds.
