General Description Niagara County Community College has an immediate need for Part Time Baking & Pastry Technical Assistants to work in our La Patisserie bakery located in the Niagara Falls Culinary Institute in Niagara Falls, NY. reports to the Baking & Pastry Arts Program Coordinator.
The rate of pay is determined based on the level of education the candidate possesses. #ffective 9/1/2022, for an Associates degree or lower the rate of pay is $20 per hour. For a Master’s degree or higher the rate of pay is $22 per hour.
Niagara County Community College is doing its part to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus within our work environment and requiring that all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Therefore, the candidate that is selected for hire of the position must show proof of their vaccination status to the Human Resources office after an offer of employment is accepted. Typical Work Activities
- Support Instructor and students with all course learning outcomes
- Assist with the coordination of all baked good production, preparation and customer service. Bakes brownies, cakes, breads, tarts according to specified standardized recipes. Prepare finishing products of frostings, icings, etc. Mix and prepare ingredients for production items. Assists in production of Savor restaurant desserts.
- Contribute to weekly and monthly inventory controls as needed.
- Assist with ordering / data entry utilizing Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
- Assist with receiving and storage of all deliveries. Stock shelves with production ingredients and put away all paper and coffee inventory
- Follow sanitation and safety guidelines including but not limited to, wipe down and clean work areas, sweep and mop floors per shift, wash and sanitize baking pans, equipment and utensils
- Assist in maintaining an open line of communication between the front and back of the house concerning standard practices of La Patisserie and Savor Restaurant
- Provide customer service assistance to students and customers with information needed to make decisions related to product or Patisserie needs
- Cashing out skills are a must, including troubleshooting and ensuring accurate payment processing
- Maintain and fill bakery trays, display cases, and ingredient bins
- Follow protocols and procedures laid out by Baking and Pastry Supervisors
- Other duties as assigned by the Pastry Arts Coordinator or Division Chair

Required Qualifications
- Associates degree; OR
- In lieu of a degree a minimum of year of food service experience is required
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds or more
- Stand for long periods of time
Desirable Qualifications
- Bachelor’s in Baking and Pastry, Hospitality, Business or Education
- Five years’ experience as a pastry chef, including retail café , ala carte desserts and supervisory experience
- Working knowledge of Windows office including, Word and Excel
