Job Description

The City of Tamarac is seeking qualified applicants for two Part-Time Park Rangers to work in the City's Parks. This is a part-time position (29 hours a week) working three evenings a week, weekends and holidays.

Under general supervision, provides information to the public on Parks and Recreation services and educates park users on the rules and regulations of the park facilities to ensure a safe and secure park experience. Identifies and reports security and maintenance issues. Assists with parks and recreation programs and special events as directed. Reports to Recreation Superintendent or designee.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Provides superior customer service and acts as a source of information and assistance to inform public of park information by explaining and interpreting rules, regulations, laws, ordinances and municipal codes.

  • Educates park visitors on park amenities, safety rules and regulations.
  • Maintains high visibility and consistent interaction with park visitors and staff patrolling by foot or other modes of transportation that may include truck or cart.
  • Responsible for checking field and shelter reservations for assigned park(s). Makes determinations and interpretations regarding reservations for specific areas of parks; resolves conflicts over the use of park facilities such as multiple bookings.
  • Works closely with youth and adult sports leagues to coordinate field reservations and use.
  • Assists with monitoring shelter rentals, bounce house permits and general reservations.
  • Patrols assigned park areas to locate any hazardous or unsafe conditions to protect visitors, staff and property; investigate and report hazards, takes appropriate corrective action as applicable, and reports unusual or suspicious circumstances to management, emergency responders and/or Broward Sheriff’s Office. Performs basic first aid, assisting first responders as applicable.
  • Documents, collects and provides data to assist law enforcement as required. Prepares reports of incidents and accidents.
  • Assists with posting park notifications and rules.
  • Assists with setup and breakdown of special events; may direct and control crowds during events and programs.
  • May assist with collecting field data and transactional surveys.
  • May assist with opening and closing parks and facilities as needed.
  • Works with the public, including seniors and/or children, users of athletic programs, schools, and other organizations utilizing the parks.
  • Communicates with managers, supervisors administrative staff, volunteers, and the public to promote a positive image of the Parks and Recreation Department.
  • Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as Parks and Recreation personnel, Athletic Federation participants and the public.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Training and Experience
Requires a high school diploma or GED supplemented by two (2) years of experience working with the general public in a parks and recreation setting or customer service position or equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess a valid State of Florida Driver’s License. Must obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid Certification to include AED within one year of employment. Must obtain and maintain Crowd Manager Certification within one year of date-of-hire.
