Park Ranger

This position is a Park Ranger, GS-0025-9/11, working in Willows, California, for the Region 8 - Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge Complex.

As a Park Ranger, your duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Utilize knowledge of natural resources and public use related laws, regulations, policies, standards, or procedures to lead a visitor services program.
• Develop environmental education curricula or programs using knowledge of educational principles and practices.
• Write news releases, public service announcements, articles for magazines, accomplishment reports, scripts for video productions, and narratives.
• Develop and manage partnerships with community organizations and corporations.
• Develop and implement evaluation process for the refuge visitor services program for useful communication about program results.
• Lead and coordinate a team of diverse individuals working on education and outdoor recreation programs.

  Minimum Qualification GS-9:
  
  Possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in the public or private sectors). Examples of qualifying specialized experience for this Park Ranger position include: 1) participating in the development of visitor service programs including content, methods, and delivery; 2) developing curriculum-based environmental education programs and materials that are tied to state standards; 3) acting as liaison between an organization and community or regional groups to develop mutually beneficial natural resource programs and projects; or 4) leading volunteers to complete natural resource and stewardship projects. NOTE: Your resume must contain sufficient detail to prove one year experience performing these duties, OR
  
  Possess a Master's or equivalent graduate degree in an accredited or pre-accredited college or university; or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; or possession of a LL.B. or J.D degree, if related. Graduate level education must be related to the occupation: natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources.   Possess an equivalent combination of specialized experience and directly related graduate level education (as described above) that, when computed as percentages of their respective requirements, equals at least 100% when combined. Only graduate education beyond the first year is creditable to meet this standard. NOTE: You must submit the documentation as described above to support this choice.
  
  Minimum Qualification GS-11:
  
  Possess at least one year of full-time specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level (GS-09) in the Federal Service. Experience must include: 1) Volunteer and Visitor Services program management; 2) Coordinating environmental education programs; 3) Participating in the coordination and development of a Visitor Services Plan; and 4) Participating in partnership activities with community organizations and corporations; 5) Identifying requirements and developing scopes of work and cost estimates for Volunteer/Visitor Services activities, OR
  
  Completion of three full academic years of progressively higher level graduate education or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree related to the occupation: natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources.   Possess an equivalent combination of professional experience and graduate level education beyond the second year which together equals 100% of the requirements. NOTE: You must submit the documentation as described above to support this choice.
  
  Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
