A Day in the Life of a Paraprofessional in Special Education . . .
The Paraprofessional at Laradon will provide direct and supportive services to students (ages 5-21) with developmental disabilities and emotional/behavioral disorders receiving services in Laradon’s School incorporating all grades of K-12. This is done by implementing schedules and routines, working 1-to-1, in small groups or in full classroom settings, and supporting school-wide and classroom management plans, all under the supervision and guidance of the Classroom Special Education Teacher.
What you need to know . . .
- Start Date: May 2022
- Schedule: Maintain a consistent schedule of 8 am-4 pm, M-F. This position is a full calendar year.
- Environment: We have a total of 10 classrooms with no more than 8 students with high staff to student ratios.
- Compensation: $17.00/hr with minimum of BA/BS or 2 yrs experience. Additional compensation based on total years of applicable experience and education; up to $18.50/hr. Extended Breaks, Holidays, and Summer are paid.
- Safety Care: All school employees are required to provide physical behavior support which includes physical management (training provided upon hire); may be subject to extensive aggressive and non-compliant behavior from special needs students.
- Pre-Employment: Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical and Colorado and Federal Bureau of Investigation background check.
- 100% In Classroom Learning: As Laradon is a small employer and employees work in a collaborative and team environment, our school employees must be physically present in the office to perform different job functions. Additionally, as a service provider, our instructional methods under our services model require the work to be performed on campus.

How you will make a difference . . .
- Work with students individually and in small groups to implement individualized support plans developed by treatment specialists.
- Assist and guide students to reinforce reading, language arts, daily hygiene, computer instruction, work tasks, and other skills.
- Implement, track and record Individualized Educational Plans “IEP” goals, behavior support plans, crisis intervention techniques, and any other skill areas needing improvement.
- Follow through with prescribed behavior intervention plans throughout the school and community and during extra-curricular activities, including monitoring of the lunchroom, playground, or other school areas to ensure safety and security of students.
- Counsel and teach students important coping techniques and life skills.
- Track and collect data of behaviors of clients to help monitor positive behavior change.
- De-escalate students as needed using approved Safety Care measures, as well as following the prescribed IEP as students may be aggressive or disruptive in class.

- Brains – Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field and/or at least two years of experience with developmentally disabled children/youth with emotional/behavior disorders and/or experience in child development, working with students, and/or working in a classroom environment.
- Mindset – Compassionate, caring, energetic, and flexible.
- Passion and Understanding - Skills in crisis management, flexibility, patience, and ability to maintain composure under stressful conditions.
- Super strength - Able to exert/lift/push up to 50 pounds of force.
- Must be 21 years or older
