Job Description

Position Summary:

Constangy, Brooks, Smith & Prophete LLP seeks a full-time Worker’s Compensation Paralegal with 2 or more years of experience to join the Macon, GA office. Ideal candidates should have a thorough understanding of workers’ compensation and occupational health cases, civil litigation procedures, and experience managing cases through the full life cycle of litigation. Employer-side, labor & employment defense experience strongly preferred, but candidates with substantive civil litigation experience and a demonstrated interest in labor and employment law will be considered. Our ideal candidate must be an independent thinker, detail-oriented, able to prioritize and manage time efficiently, able to multi-task and work with a high degree of accuracy in a fast-paced environment. Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills are required.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Serve as legal team liaison to client representatives, third parties, and outside counsel to effectively manage flow and accuracy of information in workers’ compensation matters.
  • Assist with sending and responding to written discovery.
  • Provide support to and communicate with outside counsel regarding administrative charges, litigation matters and discovery requests.
  • Organize, maintain and supervise document collection for various matters.
  • Assist with research, analyze and summarize legal sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, treatises, constitutions, legal codes and law-related information relevant to the worker’s compensation practice.
  • Routinely review and follow-up on client deadlines and calendar appointments.
  • Consistently and professionally communicate with clients, opposing counsel, vendors, and firm personnel.
  • Consistently complete assigned tasks when expected. Able to juggle multiple assignments and/or deadlines while maintaining a professional demeanor.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a paralegal in management defense work, worker’s compensation and labor & employment preferred
  • Associates or Bachelors in Paralegal Studies preferred, but those with comparable experience will be considered. Those with paralegal certificates will also be considered.
  • Working knowledge of ICMS and electronic file management systems such as ZOLA
  • Familiarity with cloud-based file management software
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook
