General Position Description
The Paraeducator supports the Teacher and the Education Coordinator by helping to create a caring and safe environment for the children and assisting in activities to improve the overall care and quality of education. S/he must be able to communicate, listen and work well with others in a team environment. Assisting the staff in implementing a quality educational program and in developing positive relationships with the children and their parents, the Paraeducator observes and documents children’s interest and progress (as assigned), and relays that information back to the Teacher. Paraeducators are responsible for implementing developmentally appropriate activities based on children’s interests and needs under the direction of the Teacher and the Child Development Manager.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required
- Minimum of 1 year of professional preschool (ages 3-5) experience preferred.
- High energy.
- Ability to work well with others.
- Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
- A basic understanding of child development.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Willing to obtain infant/child CPR and First Aid certification.
- Must clear full background check.
- Must pass health screening.
- Must have a valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License.
Educational Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED; Must be willing to be Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) eighteen months of hire (with program support).
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs. Position requires daily kneeling, stooping, bending and sitting on the floor to attend to children’s needs
