Arrange for the efficient and orderly admission of individuals who have outpatient appointments or procedures. Ensures that the patient’s information is collected, entered into hospital computer system accurately, and that all patients are aware of clinic & hospital policies and procedures. Interviews incoming patient or representatives and enters information required for admission into computer. Distributes appropriate information to all ancillary departments. Must maintain a 95% accuracy rate quarterly on all admissions.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Responsible for pre-registering patients for scheduled admissions and outpatient
procedures, obtaining personal information or verifying information already on file,
including emergency numbers and insurance information and photo ID.
2. Verify appropriate referral is on file if needed.
3. Responsible for obtaining signature on Conditions of Admission and initiating the
Advanced Directive process.
4. Communicates appropriately and clearly to the supervisor, nurse managers,
coworkers and physicians.
5. Check for cancellation daily through automated reminder call.
6. Receive patient payments on admission. Maintains department records, reports,
and files as required.
7. Responsible, when previous arrangements have been made or a co-payment is
required, to collect such payments and record payment. If unable to collect what is
noted to contact facility billing office.
8. Schedule return appointments and procedures.
9. Prepare charts/paperwork/consents for following days patients.
10. Responsible for knowing hospital policies and being familiar with hospital services
that are available.
11. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function well in stressful
situations.
12. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity; ensures confidentiality of
patients’ records.
13. Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other
departments.
14. Maintain reception area in department, keeping neat and clean at all times.
15. Participates in the educational program, completes annual educational requirements,
and attends in-service meetings as required.
16. Attends all other meetings as required.
17. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
18. Accepts and completes other duties as assigned or requested.
19. Must maintain accurate time clock punches, punch in and out according to hospital
policy.
20. Answers incoming calls to the facility/department in a professional and timely
manner.
21. Must maintain a professional attitude.
22. Must wear appropriate clothing acceding to dress code.
Education/Certification: High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Experience: One to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Equipment/Technology: Ability to use hospital information system, and operate basic computer functions and software.
Language/Communication: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively, before groups of customers and or employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate ratios and percentages and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Mental Capabilities: Ability to apply common sense to carry out
instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to
deal with problems involving several concrete variables in
standardized situations.
Interpersonal: Ability to work well with others.
