What your day in this role might involve at OC-Memphis:

The Packaging Attendant is responsible for safely operating and monitoring the performance of wrapper equipment to ensure process and production efficiency. In addition, the Packaging Attendant primary roles are to adjust the printing and labeling equipment, clean the wrapping machine, and maintain a supply of packaging materials: wrappers, tape, etc. The target of this position is to provide correctly packaged material which is sealed, shrunk and palletized correctly to reduce waste and cost. Here is a brief outline of this role…

  • Understand, operate, and troubleshoot hi-lug conveyor system, infeed and outfeed conveyor system, wrapper oven, reject bundle conveyor system, and wrapper bundle diverters.
  • Adjust wrapper for registration variation (adjust process control devices or make process changes as necessary).
  • Change poly rolls, printing and labeling equipment during a color/product change.
  • Operate and troubleshoot the ink printer.
  • Identify and correct all area process alarms.
  • Make poly splices consistently and reliably at a minimum 700 FPM.
  • Visually inspect bundles and safely remove defective bundles from the line.
  • Apply product identifications and codes.
  • Assist in repairing line breaks at the Front End or Back End and assist Auto Catchers stack off seconds and work with other Front-End personnel to keep the line running smoothly
  • Direct and assist in rewraps.
  • Safely clear wrapper jams at palletizer and accumulating conveyors.
  • Comply with all plant rules, safety regulations and maintain a clean and orderly work area

  • Experience with:
    • Work safely and follow all plant rules
    • Think under pressure, make quick and strategic decisions
    • Show initiative, be a self-starter
    • Communicate, in English, in a clear and effective manner
    • Ability to multi-task
    • Work independently, as well as part of a team, and have shift flexibility
  • Read a tape measure and do basic math

Must Haves Include:

  • High school diploma or GED and be at least 18 years old
  • Experience with:
    • Work safely and follow all plant rules
    • Show initiative, be a self-starter
    • Communicate, in English, in a clear and effective manner
    • Ability to multi-task
    • Work independently, as well as part of a team, and have shift flexibility
  • Read a tape measure and do basic math

  • Experience in manufacturing

There are some essential physical requirements specific to our work environment, including being able to:

  • Stand for 10 - 12 hours straight
  • Climb and descend stairs/ladder as needed for the role
  • Do repetitive movements (hand, arm, leg; bending and twisting at the waist; bending at the knee; squatting; lift, push and pull 40-pounds)
  • Withstand exposure to temperature extremes; sounds or noise levels that may be uncomfortable
  • Handle, control and feel raw materials and finished goods
