Organizing Coordinator
SEIU Local 2015 Job Description
Southern California, Sacramento, Fresno and Bay Area
Purpose:
To represent and assist the SEIU-Local 2015 in achieving the Organizations Program goals in the field; to supervise, train and direct International Union staff, local union staff or special project staff under the supervision of the Director; designs and implements organizing plans.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Organizing Coordinator performs a wide range of duties and responsibilities which may encompass many of those included in the Coordinator-in-Training job description. In addition, the Organizing Coordinator will routinely:
- Supervise, lead, assign, and evaluate staff including developing individual work plans with staff and overseeing their implantation and evaluation. Administer corrective discipline including termination if necessary
- Recruit, interview, and recommend hiring staff.
- Formulates and administers organizing plans and campaigns, develops campaign budgets, oversees office administration. Authorizes expenditures within the campaign budget.
- Mentors Organizing Coordinator-in-Training and staff in organizing, training among staff as it relates to member organizing, new member organizing and coordinate multiple campaigns.
Qualifications:
The Organizing Coordinator position requires a high level of judgment, leadership, and commitment to the goals of SEIU and its leaders. The Organizing Coordinator must be able to work independently with elected leaders in complex political and local union situations.
The Organizing Coordinator must have experience in all elements of an organizing campaign, including leading staff, staff supervision, planning, and budgeting.
Working Conditions:
The Organizing Coordinator must be available for travel. The position often requires temporary assignments away from home as well as long and irregular hours.
Scope and Nature of Supervision:
The Organizing Coordinator must be able to act and organize his/her time independently and report regularly to the Deputy Organizing Director or the Organizing Director.
Criteria for Evaluation:
Organizing Coordinators will be evaluated for their success in carrying out the duties and responsibilities outlined above. Special attention will be paid to their ability to train, motivate, and lead other staff, to plan and execute campaign goals and objectives, to report regularly on their activities, to work effectively with local leaders, and carry out required objectives in a professional manner in keeping with SEIU's overall goals and expectations.
Physical Requirements:
Work is generally performed in the field with members and outside constituents. Long and irregular hours required. Travel required.
Scope and Nature of Supervision:
The Organizing Coordinator reports directly to the Deputy Director or Director.
