The Main Operating Room has 24 operating rooms, Children's Surgery Center has 6 operating rooms and Same Day Surgery Center has 4 operating rooms. The majority of the surgical procedures performed tend to be complex. Twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, patient care is provided to a wide range of surgical services including: Orthopedics, Otolaryngology, Plastics, Vascular, Cardiac, Neurosurgery, Thoracic, Burn, Trauma, Gyn, Urology, Pediatrics, Transplant, and General Surgery. THIS IS NOT AN H1- B OPPORTUNITY ResponsibilitiesThe CNE-III Educator/Staff Developer creates and provides education, orientation and training to Operating Room staff, disseminates information, provides consultation and assistance for nursing research projects within the department. The incumbent designs and develops curricula, teaches individuals and develops staff competency. This position is responsible creating instructional content and training students in the Operating Room Training Program as well as other audiences within the Health System. The CNIII Educator demonstrates effective oral communication skills and confidently presents information in large groups, conferences and staff meetings. The employee in this role must be knowledgeable of professional standards, practices and guidelines and is generally regarded as the subject matter expert in AORN “Guidelines for Perioperative Practice”. The incumbent writes and reviews unit policy and procedures and is skilled with applications such as Epic Op-Time and MS Office software to create, organize and analyze content in PowerPoint, Work and Excel. The incumbent works flexible shifts to cover the learning needs of Perioperative across all venues, all shifts-to include weekends-with a primary focus of Same Day Surgery Center and University Tower Endoscopy & Surgery Suite, to include Perioperative Anesthesia Technicians, Operating Room Assistants, Equipment Specialists or as assigned by the unit manager. Required Qualifications
  • Minimum one year recent experience, skill and ability to scrub and circulate complex surgical procedures in a similar setting.
  • Minimum one year recent experience and skill using Epic/Optime.
  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Possession of current California RN License.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
  • CNOR certification within 6 months of hire.
  • CPR certification.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Knowledge of current trends in nursing.

  • Knowledge of legal implications in clinical practice and documentation.

  • Masters of Science in Nursing.

  • Ability to work overtime, float to other areas and work weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to safely lift 25 lbs. and assist in moving patients, and stand on feet over extended periods.
