Job Description
Job Summary
The Operations Supervisor supervises and coordinates terminal warehouse operational activities, audits training and safety records, and assists in meeting financial goals through reporting and cost reviews. He/She ensures the safety and productivity of employees in a time-sensitive market and that performance goals are met, maintains inventory accuracy, adheres to quality standards, and effectively manages staff. This position supervises employees who oversee inbound flow, inventory control, and outbound flow activities and supervisorses operational efficiency to ensure work completion in an operational area.
Other Job Duties
- Schedules, determines work load and Supervises dock employees daily activities.
- Audits and approves time cards daily. Delegates and approves over time as applicable.
- Plans for changes (e.g., routing changes, left over freight, left over cargo, etc.) to ensure appropriate equipment and personnel are available for loading, unloading Customer goods.
- Supervises truck build-up and breakdowns to ensure freight is properly staged and loaded per Customer instructions.
- Completes daily TDCB reports to identify productivity costs and service issues.
- Responds to customer calls (e.g., damaged goods, storage fees, etc.) to resolve issues.
- Follows up on items addressed in safety meetings to ensure issues are resolved and communicated to employees.
- Supervises audit activities to meet compliance procedures results for Customs, and internal audits.
- Evaluates work areas for potential hazards and determines space allocations to ensure the existence of a safe, clean work environment. Works with local FEC on compliance audits.
- Participates in monthly cost reviews to assess operational needs and control costs.
- Completes service documentation (OS&D) to assist in customer revenue recovery and lost freight.
- Provides on-going feedback and support to improve performance.
- Conducts performance evaluations in a consistent, fair, and objective manner to encourage continuous performance improvement.
- Resolves individual and group performance issues in accordance with UPS’s policies and procedures in a timely manner to motivate and foster teamwork.
Preferred Competencies
- Demonstrates a basic understanding of the functions of compliance agencies or governing bodies both domestically and internationally; demonstrates a basic understanding of compliance regulations and procedures established by governing agencies (e.g., hazardous materials handling and emergency procedures, anti-pollution measures for air, water, and noise, traffic and/or aviation safety regulations); communicates the importance of compliance with regulations; advocates and supports programs that reduce risk and enhance safety.
- Demonstrates a general understanding of company policies and procedures in a business area that affect employees on a day-to-day basis.
- Demonstrates a basic understanding of key aspects of UPS freight structure and operations (i.e., general flow from pickup to delivery; basic machinery and equipment; names of business units at UPS).
- Learns subjects thoroughly and in detail; supplies appropriate details when responding to questions; maintains organized files.
- Explains general inspection procedures of buildings, grounds, equipment, supplies, and/or documentation; works with others to identify basic documentation and record keeping procedures for logging inspections.
- Identifies relevant property and lists applicable threats to that property; describes procedures in place designed to safeguard property; identifies resources and tools used to monitor, patrol, and report on property.
