Job Description

Primary Objective:

Directs the day-to-day warehouse operation and assists in the development of the warehouse supervisory personnel to support the client requirements toward obtaining optimum efficiency and economy of processes in order to maximize profits. Leads a team of warehouse supervisors and customer service personnel in a fast-paced, multi-client warehouse environment. Manages all facets of warehouse operations and ensures systems, processes, and reporting are aligned to meet customer requirements. Helps formulate operating policies and procedures for the distribution operations, which ensure the effective and efficient operation in the receiving, storing, and shipping of customers’ products and in compliance with the required guidelines of the customer.

Principle Duties and End Results

  • Oversees the daily activities of the warehouse assigned areas of responsibility, including labor planning and scheduling, management and proper utilization of space and equipment and organized, clean building appearance while meeting the labor budget.
  • Actively manages and monitors the complete order fulfillment cycle to meet customer requirements including inbound receiving and quality inspections, put-away, inventory management and control, picking and packing, value-added services, staging and shipping, and returns management.
  • Prepares reports as required and reviews measurements to suggest process improvements.
  • Direct and oversee job assignments to meet Federal, State, and company rules and laws as well as Client requirements.
  • Lead, train, coach, and discipline personnel and supervisory team.
  • Oversee the training of all personnel in warehousing, inventory, receiving, and stocking methods and procedures including sufficient cross training of personnel assigned.
  • Responsible for improvement of Gross Margins though efficient and effective processes, procedures and leadership.
  • Actively works to maintain the client relationship by providing the tactical interface in dealing with the client so that all activities of the warehouse are taken in concert with the client to allow a smooth interrelationship leading to overall customer satisfaction, growth, and retention.
  • Manages labor requirements based on forecast of workload.
  • Ensures a safe work environment and equipment operation in compliance with OSHA and local fire and safety regulations. Oversees policies and procedures for all maintenance activities.
  • Oversees the enforcement of all government regulations related to the warehouse including but not limited to US Customs, OSHA, WISHA and other governmental agencies.
  • Confers with senior divisional management, reviews and analyzes activity, operating and sales reports to determine whether modifications in programs or operations are required.
  • Responsible for the overall success, profitability, and satisfaction of customers’ accounts managed. Directs and coordinates warehouse activities to obtain optimum efficiency and economy and maximize profitability.
  • Administers and directs corporate and divisional directives outlining policy, program, or operational actions to be implemented.
  • Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, motivation, and evaluation of direct reports. Supervisory responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Establishes and directs a plan of personnel development which will support the customer association, requirements, and specifications.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years experience in warehouse management, distribution, and inventory control, preferably in public warehousing or private company with a strong emphasis on high volume distribution.
  • Proven track record of successful multi-client warehouse management, including large customers with multi-year service agreements.
  • Strong knowledge of warehouse processes, technology, order fulfillment to retail, transportation, and supply chain management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective organizational and planning skills including the ability to define a problem, collect data, determine root cause, and work to resolution with a team.
  • Experience in a direct customer interaction role, with solid background of managing work teams to meet customer expectations.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Proven leadership ability; demonstrated ability to build, mentor, train, grow, and lead a team.
  • Strong computer skills, especially in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • BS/BA degree required. Advanced coursework or college degree in related field a plus.
