Position Information

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

The Division of Diagnostic Sciences focuses on oral radiology and pathology through a combination of basic science and general dentistry, guides the diagnosis of oral diseases, and helps develop patient treatment plans. The Orofacial Pain discipline assesses, diagnoses and treats patients with complex, chronic pain in the mouth, jaws and face.



Position Summary

The Adams School of Dentistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is inviting applicants for an Orofacial Pain faculty appointment. This is a fixed-term academic appointment that will include clinical and didactic teaching at the pre- and post-DDS level including the CODA-accredited Orofacial Pain Residency Program, research activity, patient care at the Orofacial Pain Clinic, and service. This represents a unique and challenging opportunity to become a leading facilitator in higher education in Orofacial Pain and Interprofessional pain education, and to join a multidisciplinary team of pain clinicians in the delivery of care for patients suffering from chronic orofacial pain and comorbid pain conditions. In addition, there is the exciting opportunity to collaborate in ongoing pain research in key areas ranging from pain neurobiology to translational pain medicine.



Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

DDS/DMD or equivalent and be eligible to obtain state licensure



Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Certificate or higher level of training in Orofacial Pain, and who are board-eligible or a Diplomate of the American Board of Orofacial Pain. Applicants with experience in the clinical management of chronic orofacial pain conditions and dental sleep medicine are preferred.
