If selected as a provider for this clinical service position, you will be required to provide proof of education and transcripts (and proof of licensure, if applicable) and pass all required background checks prior to hire. You will also be required to complete MHP’s credentialing process and attend new hire orientation/training before you will be able to begin work.
On-Call employees will be expected to work some day, swing, and night shifts, as well as holidays.
Position is "as needed", however will cover when full-time staff is on vacation or out sick
Purpose:
The Substance Abuse Specialist provides direct services to intoxicated and newly sober persons in an inpatient substance abuse facility.
Job Summary:
To provide direct services and assistance to clients in a milieu environment.
Essential Functions:
- Conducts client screening; including client histories, case notes and discharges
- Assists with client education
- Provides support in the management of the milieu and the work environment
- Evaluates crisis situations and escalated behaviors and provides appropriate interventions and support
- Intervenes in situations to promote health and recovery face to face contact with clients in order to facilitate progress toward recovery
- Works collaboratively with clients and other pertinent staff to coordinate appropriate care
- Monitors clients’ vital signs and assesses the need for medical or higher level care and coordinates those sources as appropriate
- Maintains up-to-date clinical records on assigned clients
- Completes documentation of services consistent with clinical and administrative policies and procedures
- Promotes and demonstrates MHP’s mission, vision and values through both behavior and job performance on a day to day basis
- Effectively interacts and communicates with other MHP staff/clients/customers/partners/etc.
- Regular and consistent attendance is required to perform other essential functions of the job
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum qualifications
- BA degree in a behavioral health field, OR High School diploma and CAC II/CAC III OR unrelated BA with at least one year work experience in the behavioral health field required
- Current CPR certification, or ability to obtain CPR certification within 30 days of hire
- QMAP certification required; if not already certified must become certified within 30 days of hire
- Must receive the flu shot annually
- Registration in the State of Colorado DORA database as an approved addictions counselor or mental health licensure is required within 90 days of hire
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Working knowledge of addictions and their treatments
- Ability to learn and understand program policies and procedures
- Ability to make good judgments regarding client related issues of a confidential, legal or medical nature
- Ability to monitor client vital signs
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Must be able to effectively work with other staff, partner agencies and the public
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to work effectively with intoxicated clients
- Excellent de-escalation and problem solving skills
Working Environment
- General office environment and a 24-hour, inpatient substance abuse facility
- Includes working with people in acute distress or crisis
- May require travel to several MHP sites throughout Boulder and Broomfield counties to attend meetings
