The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics is seeking Nursing Assistants for our Medical Surgical Services (MSS) Division. Our Medical-Surgical Services Division is one of the largest in the hospital, with more than 260 of our 811 beds assigned to medical-surgical care settings. In a recent year, our total acute admissions was just more than 36,000 with more than 230,633 acute patient days of care. Medical Surgical Services consists of 10 inpatient units, each with specific specialities and patient populations:
- Adult Acute Care Unit (2JCP)
- Adult Acute Internal Medicine Unit (4/5 South)
- Adult Surgery Specialty Unit (2RC)
- General Medicine (6RC)
- Medical Observation Unit (7JPP)
- Medical-Surgical Oncology (4JPP)
- Non-Vascular Neurology (2BT)
- Orthopedics, Urology, Ophthalmology (3RCE)
- Short Stay Unit (3RCW)
- Stem Cell Transplant and Cellular Therapies Unit (3JCP)
We are looking seeking Nursing Assistants to perform specific tasks to assist members of the Nursing team in providing patient care under the direct supervision of Registered Nurses.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Perform patient personal hygiene such as bathing, toileting, feeding, dressing, grooming and oral care for patients.
- Turn, position and ambulate patients.
- Assist patients with bedpans, urinals and perineal cleansing.
- Take temperature, pulse and blood pressure.
- Enter daily patient record charting in computer.
- Perform simple diagnostic/therapeutic procedures (i.e., dressing changes).
- Clean equipment, patient bedside area and nursing unit.
- Set up rooms for patient admission.
- Transport patients by bed, cart or wheelchair.
- Transport equipment, specimens and supplies.
- Stock and supply patient rooms and Nursing unit.
- Perform basic CPR as required.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.

Percent of Time: 50-100% (20-40hrs/week)
Schedule: Varies by unit
Location: UIHC Main Campus
Rotations: Holiday rotations, every other weekend
Salary: $14,803.92 - $29,607.84/year to commensurate, not including shift differentials
