Day: 8 hoursJob Description
Provides professional nursing services to patients following established standards and practices under the supervision of an assigned MD. Applies nursing process and theories as well as principles of psycho-social and physical sciences, in assessing, planning, diagnosing, implementing, evaluating, and modifying patient care. Strives for quality outcomes and innovative practice in accordance with the California Nursing Practice Act and the Hospital/departmental policies. This position is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered and for the delivery of care consistent with the ANA Code of Ethics and the ANA Bill of Rights for Nursing. The Nurse Practitioner provides care in a collaborative manner with other disciplines to ensure optimal, individualized patient care and outcomes. All aspects of the Nurse Practitioner’s performance supports service excellence and a healing environment.
The Nurse Practitioner serves as a liaison between the patient and family, physician, internal and external care providers, specialists, referrers, support network members, e.g, social workers and nutritionists, and the wider health care community.
Cancer Center
The Nurse Practitioner, Cancer Services (NP) aids oncology patients in achieving optimal quality of life by focusing on symptom management, assisting with care coordination, providing support and education, empowering patients to optimize time with clinicians and facilitating appropriate follow-up care. The NP will also provide Palliative Care/Coordination of Palliative Care throughout the continuum.
Heart & Vascular Institute
The Nurse Practitioner, Heart & Vascular Institute (NP) aids patients in achieving optimal quality of life by focusing on symptom management, assisting with care coordination, providing support and education, empowering patients to optimize time with clinicians and facilitating appropriate follow-up care. The NP will provide care throughout the continuum.
Neuroscience Institute
Specific Responsibilities regarding the Stroke Program include:
- Act as an extension of the role of the Stroke Program Coordinator and work closely with the neurology team
- Actively involved in the management of stroke and TIA patients across the continuum of care from the hyperacute phase of admission, the inpatient stay and outpatient follow up. The NP will be responsible for outcomes measurement for stroke patients.
- Collaborate with the Stroke Program Medical Director for maintenance and growth of the program
- Collaborate with the Interventional Program Medical Director for maintenance and growth of the program
- Educate healthcare team and develop staff regarding care of the Neurovascular patient population and development PI projects
Pulmonary Diagnostics Lab - Lung Nodule
The Nurse Practitioner, Lung Nodule (NP) aids oncology patients in achieving optimal quality of life by focusing on symptom management, assisting with care coordination, providing support and education, empowering patients to optimize time with clinicians and facilitating appropriate follow-up care. The NP will also provide Palliative Care/Coordination of Palliative Care throughout the continuum.
Palliative Care
The Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner provides direct and indirect care to patients while assuring expert nursing care for the management of life-limiting illness The NP plans, implements and evaluates clinical programs to advance patient care and nursing practice, provides education and clinical leadership. The NP delivers symptom management, psycho-social support, advance care planning and end-of-life care.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Nursing.
Minimum of one (1) year outpatient experience.
Furnishing and DEA number.
Strong facilitative collaboration skills.
Ability to work cooperatively/collaboratively as part of a team, developing productive working relationships with diverse groups of people.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, problem solving, conflict resolution skills.
Cancer Center
Dept Specific Experience
Three (3) years’ recent experience as a NP in Outpatient Oncology setting or Palliative Care required
Heart & Vascular Institute
Dept Specific Experience
Three (3) years’ recent experience as a NP in cardiology setting required.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
Dept Specific Experience
Three (3) years of recent experience in neonatal nursing care including at least one in a facility with an NICU that is equivalent to a Regional or Community NICU and demonstrated clinical competence and in-depth knowledge in the clinical area.
Demonstrated ability to produce results and coordinate projects
Experience of expertise in quality improvement and evidenced based practice.
Neuroscience Institute

Training in cardiovascular/stroke care.
Experience in risk factor reduction, education, and counseling and case management.
Palliative Care
Dept Specific Experience
Minimum of one year of palliative care nurse practitioner experience
Experience of expertise in quality improvement and evidenced based practice.

Three (3) years’ recent experience as a NP in Outpatient Oncology setting or Pulmonary.
Senior Health Center
Dept Specific Experience
Minimum of two years of recent direct behavioral health experience required.
Experience in risk factor reduction, education, and counseling and case management.
License/Certification/Registration Requirements
Current CA Registered Nurse license - California Board of Registered Nursing
California Nurse Practitioner Certification - American Academy of Nurse Practitioners
Current BLS (Basic Lifesaving) Certification - American Heart Association
Pallative Care License also requires:
ACHPN (Advanced Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse - National Board for Certification of Hospice and Palliative Nurses, must obtain within one year of hire date
Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANCC) - American Nurses Credentialing Center or Adult Nurse Practitioner-(AANPCP) - American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Program certification as a Family or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.
National Provider Identifier - NPPES NPI Registry
Active DEA schedule II-IV
Neonatal ICU License also requires:
Current California Neonatal Nurse Practitioner - National Certification Corporation for the Obstetric Gynecologic and Neonatal Nursing Specialties
Current Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing Certification - National Certification Corporation for the Obstetric Gynecologic and Neonatal Nursing Specialties
Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification - American Academy of Pediatrics
