Job Description
Overview:

The position's practice is characterized by comprehensive health assessments and management of acute complex patients' health problems. The Nurse Practitioner provides leadership and support to the cardiac observation unit. The person in this position works in collaboration with a physician, Chest Pain & MI Nurse Practitioner, Cardiac Cath Lab Nurse Practitioner, Heart Failure Nurse Practitioner, and other team members to deliver care to patients and families in the cardiac observation unit. The primary patient population of this unit include: low risk chest pain, ACS, post cardiac catheterization patients, HTN, Afib, Heart Failure, Syncope, and TIA.


This is a full time with benefits Nurse Practitioner for House Coverage Nights at JFK University Medical Center.

Cardiology Advanced Nurse Practitioner with the primary responsibilities includes management of chest pain ACS, HTN, A-Fib, Heart Failure, TIA, adult patients in a multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities:

Obtains a thorough patient history that includes: Determination of the chief complaint, analysis of primary symptomatology. Review of the course since onset of above: incidence, progress and effect of therapy(s). Completes medical and social history. Performs an appropriate physical examination and recognizes normal and abnormal findings. Records findings of the physical exam in a clear and concise manner. Makes recommendations based on the data gathered in the history and physical examination for developing a problem list, formulating a differential or actual diagnosis, counseling, educating and instructing patients in specific disease-related and preventative medicine areas. Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic and laboratory tests to identify and assess patient's clinical problems and health care needs for continuity of care.

Writes orders to implement non pharmacological and pharmacological therapeutic plans. Communicates with collaborating physician/s regarding pertinent patient information including but not limited to actual or potential clinical problems, diagnostic tests/labs, consultants' recommendations, and updates or adjustments to the treatment plan via the multidisciplinary rehabilitation team. Collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other health care team members.

Maintains professional accountability to meet job requirements, skills and competence.

Functions independently and in collaboration with physician/s to perform age-appropriate history and physicals to outpatients. Provides general medical care and treatment to patients in medical facility, health center

Ensure that chest pain/mi, pre and post cardiac cath patients and heart failure patients receive GDMT, assess and manage patients pre and post cath to ensure patient well-being and safety, and support our numerous performance improvement initiatives to help support our Chest Pain, Cath Lab and Heart Failure Accreditations and metric goals from the American College of Cardiology.

Ensure that the patient’s plan of care is implemented in a timely manner to expedite length of stay as well as ensuring safe discharge to avoid readmissions.

Qualifications:

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred: 1. A minimum of 5 years nursing experience preferably in a cardiology care setting. 2. A minimum of 2 years nurse practitioner experience preferably in an acute or cardiology setting 3. Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and an Accredited Nurse Practitioner Program (Masters). Licenses and Certifications Required: 1. Advance Practice Nurse License. 2. DEA License 3. AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification 4. AHA ACLS Certification

Master´s Degree in Nursing required.

New Jersey Advanced Practice Nurse license

DEA License

BLS, ACLS Certification

Minimum of 5 years RN/Specialty experience preferably in a cardiology care setting

Minimum of 2 years experience in the Nurse Practitioner role in an acute or cardiology setting preferred.

Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and Google Drive.
