Position provides nursing leadership and oversight of the overall patient care process, assuring staff provide the highest service and quality care to patients within the professional nursing care standards. Responsibility to the operating and capital budgets, centralization/standardization of processes, and the optimization of resources to obtain key performance metrics.

Possess the ability to drive operating metrics for positive performance by clearly assigning responsibility for tasks and decisions. Sets clear expectations and measures and monitors process, progress and results. Can quickly sense what will help or hinder accomplishing a goal and removes barriers.
- Prepares an annual budget and manages the staff and department consistent with approved budgetary goals.
- Monitors expenses daily using various cost elements and techniques. Monitors labor cost using productivity models (visionware) and measures (i.e. staffing to volume).
- Monitors patient revenue and statistical reports paying particular attention to per worked hours per patient day, use of agency and premium pay programs.
- Prepares reports setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions. Implements actions to correct adverse trends.
- Ensures that scheduling and staffing is timely, proactive, and cost effective meeting the needs of the unit.
- Serves a chief retention officer for their unit and able to speak to turnover. Strives to be at the target for retention of employees.

- Ensures that department complies with hospital-established policies, quality assurance programs, safety, and infection control policies and procedures.
- Develop and implement new procedures, models of care delivery and techniques to improve patient care.
- Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and the delineation of professional and nonprofessional role enhancements.
- Reviews event reports and trends with the CNO/Director to determine causes and to provide for prevention of future incidents through counseling and education of staff and appropriate discipline.
- Serves on system and regional organizational teams to improve care processes.
- Reviews and monitors documentation for completeness and accuracy.
- Collaborates with the NPD specialist and/or CNE in development, implementation, maintenance, and systematic evaluation of evidenced-based care.
- Monitors technology advancements and is responsible for addressing quality as it relates to equipment and technology.
- Ensures compliance with requirements set by governmental or other regulating bodies (i.e. TJC, CMS,OSHA,CARF, and IDPH)

- Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
- Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
- Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN)
Experience:
3 years of experience in/with inpatient nursing
License(s)/Certification(s):
Current licensure in good standing as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.
Basic computer knowledge using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and web browser.
Multicultural sensitivity.
Critical thinking skills using independent judgement in making decisions.
