Work Hours/Shift:
PRN (Mostly Weekdays to cover vacations and call outs) plus call at least one weekend every month
You will be responsible for:
- Operates the Nuclear Medicine gamma camera, counters, computers, probes, scanners and other related equipment.
- Reviews with nursing personnel the preparation and procedure to be performed on patients.
- Prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals to patients using sterile technique. This includes therapeutic doses.
- Performs such procedures as organ imaging, both static and dynamic, physiological tracer (function) studies and radio assay studies.
- Prepares exam room for patients and insures that needed supplies are at hand for each procedure.
- Explains to the patient/family member the procedure and answers any questions relative to the procedure.
- Monitors the patient in the scan room during the procedure.
- Reviews image with Radiologist upon completion of the procedure.
- Assists in the development of new techniques and procedures.
- Assists the health physicist when needed.
- Performs Quality Control
- Performs daily quality control on the Nuclear Medicine equipment.
- Performs equipment calibration and minor repairs as needed.
- Maintains equipment in a clean and orderly fashion.
- Reports all equipment failure or problems to the Nuclear Medicine Supervisor.
- Performs Quality Assurance
- Performs all Quality Assurance activities as recommended by the Hospital and JCAHO.
- Helps to maintain the policy and procedure manual
- Completes history and physical form on each patient
- Documents the radiopharmaceutical and amount given to each patient.
- Provides radiation protection to the patient or any other persons in accordance with prescribed safety standards
- Participates in decontamination of radionuclide spillage, should one occur
- Observes and insures safe practices for all patients, visitors and personnel.
- Completes the Hospital incident report for any problems that occur with patients or procedures performed on patients.
- Attends staff meetings, patient care meetings as requested in order to keep abreast of all Hospital and departmental changes
- Age Specific Standards
- Provides Nuclear Medicine procedures to all patients, regardless of age, race or sex.
- Patient population includes patients of all ages from infants through the geriatric population
- Demonstrates ability to interpret age specific data, plan and implement Nuclear Medicine procedures based on interpretation of findings
- Follows Radiation Protection Guidelines
- Wears TLD badge daily.
- Provides radiation protection to the patient or any other persons in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
- Reviews quarterly radiation exposure reports.
What You Will Need:
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Completion of an AMA approved School of Radiologic Technology or Nuclear Medicine Technology.
- Current Florida State license in Nuclear Medicine or Radiologic Technology.
- Current certification with ARRT or NMTCB
- Basic Life Support Certification
Job Summary:
