Job Description

Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Richlands, Virginia, SWCC offers associate’s degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university. SWCC also has associate’s degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.

JOB DESCRIPTION / RESPONSIBILITIES :

Southwest Virginia Community College is in search of a part time adjunct faculty Motorcycle Rider Safety Instructor/Coordinator.

This position will serve Southwest Virginia Community College’s Workforce and Continuing Education division and instructional workload will be based on demand in surrounding communities serviced by Southwest Virginia Community College.

The successful candidate must be self-motivated, able to multi-task, and create a student-oriented learning environment.

Classes may be offered day, evening, or weekends. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE :
  • Facilitates and coordinates delivery of Basic Rider courses (BRCu) according to approved curriculum and standards established by the Virginia Rider Training Program (VRTP) including both classroom and range instruction.
  • Completion of all course associated paperwork in addition to evaluating, coaching, and correcting student performance.
  • Responsible for helping coordinate delivery/scheduling/setup of all classes and providing input/feedback of annual budget to ensure profitability of program.
  • Will directly assist in expansion of program and Continuing Education offerings including participating in potential motorcycle riding excursions, safety training, maintenance, etc.
  • Assist in ensuring all equipment is in top operating condition and serviced/inspected/maintained on a regular basis. Also responsible in ensuring any damage is promptly reported to appropriate personnel and repaired promptly.
  • Promotes and supports student success while maintaining a safe range environment and adhering to all SWCC Policies and Procedures.
  • Instructing and coordinating classes in the outdoor environment, in various weather conditions that may occur during the class period, including seasonally hot or cold temperatures and inclement weather.
  • Serve as an academic advisor and ambassador for SWCC, including a special focus on SWCC’s motorcycle program at special events, through marketing, etc.
  • Other duties may be assigned as required.



Minimum Qualifications The successful candidate must hold a valid driver’s license and have a motorcycle license (Class M) for at least two years and possess the ability to ride a motorcycle in the demonstration of riding exercises.

A satisfactory driving record is also required.

Must also hold or be able to obtain a Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Rider Coach Certification and be vetted and/or in good standing status by the Virginia Rider Training Program (VRTP).

Must have demonstrated ability to teach a diverse group of students with various needs and skill levels.

The successful candidate must also have strong written, oral, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications Prior teaching experience is preferred including delivering training in classroom and range focused training.

Experience instructing adult learners is a plus.

Knowledge of computer systems including being proficient in all Microsoft Office applications.

Previous experience servicing and maintaining a variety of different motorcycle bikes and equipment.

Proven ability to coordinate and schedule large scale projects on a variety of levels.

Associate’s or Bachelor degree preferred.
