Job Description

The NICU Quality Coordinator reports directly to the Manager of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and assists with coordinating the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Neonatal Intensive Care Units overall Performance Improvement Program directly in line with the Texas Joint Regionalization initiative (Assignment of Level of Care designation). This includes but is not limited to the following: supports the hospitals Performance Improvement Process; identifies performance trends; as well as prioritizes, and recommends improvements to attain the standards set forth by the 84th legislature section 241.185 Assignment of Level of Care designation. The PI Coordinator also plays a supportive role in ensuring compliance with all Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards. The PI Coordinator will investigate specific areas of concern as identified by the NICU Leadership Team for both NICU and Hospital initiatives. This individual also acts as SME (Subject Matter Expert) for all Cerner initiatives that encompass both the Medical and Nursing disciplines in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

5. Has knowledge of professional nursing principles, practices, concepts, and procedures as applied to the care of the patient population served.
6. Ability to utilize computer software applications to include word processing, spreadsheets and power point
7. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
8. Ability to read and comprehend English at a level necessary to follow written and oral instructions and safety precautions.


Required Experience


Work Experience

  • Minimum five years RN clinical experience in NICU
  • Working knowledge of CERNER and other software programs specific to the NICU (i.e. Site of Care)
  • Familiar with the Joint Regionalization and Levels of Care Designation

License/Registration/Certification

  • Current RN License to practice in the State of Texas
  • Certification in Neonatal Intensive Care preferred
  • NRP certified
  • STABLE certified


Education and Training

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required.
